Here are some of my recent drawings that I did for my Nieces and Nephews for their holiday cards. The colored pencils ones are done with Prismacolor and Lyra Rembrandt pencils and outlined in white Gelly Roll pen (The drawing of Sadness being dragged by Joy isn't finished yet, hence the lack of outline and less than fully saturated colors). Also one (partially successful) attempt at mixed media using water soluble graphite and a brush pen for hair.

Did one more, this time on larger grey paper. I think I like the fibreyness of the toned tan better, this paper was a little too soft so when I was sketching the outline the pencil really dug into the paper and made it hard to color in the areas where I had to erase and correct, because the indented lines didn't want to take the colored pencil, but I worked through most of them by the end. I know drawing Disney characters isn't the most glamorous or challenging or artistically original thing in the world, but I'm pretty proud with how they turned out and I had a lot of fun doing them.

Thanks! It's Prismacolor pencils (my favorite colored pencil) on this 147gsm Neenah Exact Bristol Vellum paper that I found for $6-$7 per 250 sheet ream, works really really well with soft pencils (although as I discovered it has a little trouble with the harder leads leaving indents). I inked over the sketch with a sharpie pen and erased the remaining graphite before coloring it in and then outlined the whole thing with white gelly roll to make it pop a little bit and to help contrast the white of the drawing against the grey of the paper. I really like the Prismacolors because you can put down a nice thick coat of color with them and they layer and blend really well.

indents. Indents Fascinate me. They can be used to your advantage if you let them. As a textural like in a woodcut . I have learned to accept them and it's weird but they feel really good when I hit them, like my pencil hits a speed bump and jolts my senses a bit.

Just finished my first real Watercolor with the new art supplies I got over the holidays. It's so different from using brush pens. Taking up art is almost certainly the best decision I have made in a long time, it has been a very fun couple of months! Feels like I have come so far since I started at the end of October, I can't wait to see where this journey goes from here!

Thank you for all the kind words and encouragement, it's always such a good feeling to read! Anywhoodle, here's a few more recent works, just been experimenting with a bunch of different stuff. Really trying hard to develop the ability to work without references, it's exceptionally tough for me to do anything from my imagination but I want so badly to be able to that I refuse to give up, even if the results are much less polished that I wish they were. All of these were done without references, just my brain. Some are abstract, some not, and some start abstract and then I try to pull something solid out of it.

wish we had the rep button back. Watercolor seems to be a natural for you.
