Interesting, thought id put this out there... i heard it about a week ago, since i saw that Oklahomans are so SMART to go the way of Texas.

whats going on in Oklahoma? WOW! We all know that education is a pretty important thing in this country right?
SO......... i trust what comes from an Oklahoman......(major sarcasm). this is the America you want? we should follow Oklahoma, and Texas, ect.... because they are making educated moves for their states?
Just ask the kids, oh yeah.... the kids are our future, without education there will be no future. step it up Oklahoma! these are YOUR kids! how could you let this happen? Too busy speading fear to realize your failing your children?

I would think that alot of it has to do with Oklahoma's growing hispanic population. Which i would think there not too concerned about a president from decades ago. That one of my thoughts and i'm preety sure there is some other underlying problems in the education system. By they way i lived there for 20+ years so i got a pretty good idea on how that state runs. PEACE

Federal meddeling in education.
We don't teach history for shit anymore.
We graduate kids nowdays who don't know
how to make change
or that think central america is Nebraska
Or can't find the US on a globe.
So someone not knowing who the first President is doesn't suprise me one bit.

So yes Oklahoma is being smart to distance itself from the feds
who have taken over education and blundered it
just like they blunder everything else they do.

i bet the guy who started this post never considered any other probable causes. typical liberal, "its cuz of da rednecks" or "jesus is making your kids dumb".

another probable cause is the "no child left behind" act. it put a premium on certain subjects and obliterated others. i know that history took a beating.

school districts are so busy "teaching" the test and less concerned that children know how to process information. (used to be married to a teacher for 10 years and the stomach in my avatar is a teacher. we dated for 3 1/2 years so i know a little about the profession)

Jesus is making your kids dumb, I have an example. There is this youth based non-profit organization that takes donations at a local gas station here in MN, they claim to raise money to "prevent teen suicide." I bought one of their books for shits, and let me tell you, I haven't seen propaganda like that since I was learning about nazi germany. They blame all teen suicide on prescription drugs and take so many quotes out of context that its not even funny. They also describe atheism as dangerous and that it will lead to an early death. They use rock stars dying earlier than your average joe as evidence that a life without god leads to an early grave. Umm, last time I checked, all atheists don't lead lives like rock stars(not to mention all rockstars aren't drug using womanizers). What are they using the donation money for? Buying up Ritalin and flushing it down the toilet? Doubt it. Religion is just a tool people use to scare morons into giving them money. Read some Machiavelli some time.

All of these organizations are the same. It's the same "the world is getting worse and worse, and if you don't give yourself(and your money) to christ(aka people claiming they work for "christ"), then you'll go to hell and burn for eternity. Newsflash: the world has always had problems. Matter of fact, I'd say the world is getting much better. Matter of fact, I know people are getting smarter, which is why these churches are pushing so hard these days. They're afraid they are going to lose all of their followers when everyone gets smart enough to realize its all bunk.

good example, i have another one.

there is a religious group that keeps telling people that the planet is going to ever heat and everyone is gonna die. they tell us that its because the truck i take my kids to school in is causing the planet to have a fever. they want us to believe that if we just give them more money for the fuel i use to run my truck, and heat my home, and warm my food, if i just give them more money the earth will be fixed. i wonder what these religious fanatics will do with all that money?

Religion is just a tool people use to guilt trip morons into giving them money. Read some Machiavelli some time. this is very good advice.

Except the group you're describing doesn't want us to donate money. They want us to spend less money and use less fuel. Your logic is flawed and I see no parallel between this scenario and the one I described.

Edit: and if you don't believe in global warming yet, just turn on the weather channel and you'll see the proof. Weather is fucked up all over the US right now.

Nobody is pointing a gun at you, don't be so dramatic. You probably go to H&R Block and sit in a comfortable chair when you do your taxes, no guns involved. You live in a civilized country, taxes are a part of living in a civilized country. Not to mention only a minuscule percentage of your tax dollars go to anything having to do with the environment.

Also, a common misconception is that global warming will cause extreme heat. In actuality, it causes erratic weather, which is what seems to be going on all over America and the world. Especially right outside my front door. Anything else you'd like to discuss?

did you actually read this statement after you read it? i would suggest you reread it. if you dont think you are in a cult...keep rereading it.

when i was a kid, we called it FUCKING WEATHER. YES, NO SHIT, SOMETIMES ITS HOT, SOMETIMES ITS COLD, SOMETIMES ITS REALLY FUCKING HOT AND COLD ON THE SAME DAY (THINKING COLORADO). wake the fuck up out of your cult like trance and look around. there is nothing, and i mean not a fucking thing, that is any different about the FUCKING WEATHER now or anytime in the history of the planet. it changes.

you have fallen hook line and sinker for a con game. the game? see how i can get my hand into your pocket. and you stand idly by and watch and cheer them on.

lets just say we are both poor. lets just say that the only thing i can afford is a beat up pickup truck. i can barely get by. now here comes some goofball saying, "its only a couple cents and you can afford it besides, we are saving the planet". so to the poor guy it makes no difference that it costs another 100 bucks a year for gas. and 75 bucks a year for his heating oil and.....fill in the fucking blank. he can barely afford to feed his family.

and you goody two shoes liberal motherfuckers think you are saving the planet. YO, ASSHOLES, YOU ARE GONNA BE KILLING THE POOR. and everything liberals clame to do is for the good of the people. that is utter nonsense. you are fascist communist power hungry elitest who want to control the most powerful thing in the world ENERGY. which in turn controls YOU. you people are disgusting and history will prove it out. God i hate you liberal following fuckers.

liberalism is by far the most dangerous religion on the planet.

i need to calm down....:joint::joint:

kid, no disrespect but get some life experience and come back and talk to us. we have seen all this before. its the same argument over and over and over....

why would you voluntarily give your freedom (your money and ability to provide for YOURSELF) why would you give that to anybody? why would you encourage your children to voluntarily give it away?

did you or your parents work to get where you are? assuming you did, why would you voluntarily agree to give your money to a group of people who are gonna hand it over to dictators who kill people in their country for disagreeing with them?

these countries that are going to be given money are countries like rowanda, somalia, venezuela. its gonna be given to the people in charge. not to the pesents. it will go to murderous asshole to build more palaces, and buy weapons for their armies so they can hold the suffereing people down.

and it damn sure isnt gonna "cure" the planet. its rubbish!!

This is where you don't get it, jeff....

The only reason you are able to do well for yourself in the first place is because the state provides you with security, infrastructure, enforces contracts and god knows what else. In exchange, you give up a small proportion of your money to pay for these things through taxes. We all do. In political science, this is called the social contract and it was a concept the jeffersons, adamses and madisons who founded the country understood fully well. They actually believed that government BY the people could improve things for everyone and create a better society. That might be naive and may not apply to the modern world, but that's part of the ideals of our republic, like it or not.

If you truly want to live without this and be your own man, there are a few places on the planet where you can do this. Somalia comes to mind. Just remember you will need to build your own roads, provide your own security and create your own currency...

^^^ The roads are paid for through gasoline taxes. Security is provided through the military, paid for through federal taxes. Local police and fire departments are paid for from local taxes. The courts enforce contracts. For those who violate the rights of others, we have police, courts and jails ... again, paid for through taxes. Other than that, I'd prefer that government keeps its hands out of our business.

There is no reason to have the bloated monstrosity that now resides in Washington, D.C.

Want to see the citizens really prosper? Abolish the federal income tax, the death tax, the capital gains tax and corporate taxes. Replace it all with a simple sales tax paid for by the end user.

yo abe, i totally get it.

tell me your building a road, great here is some money, do a nice job.

tell me your making up a scheme to TAKE my money and give it to other countries GO FUCK YOURSELF.

we arent giving money for improvements in our area. we are being FORCED to give money to the UN, none of which recieved a single vote from a single american, so they can distribute it to another country nope. nope nope....aint gonna happen.

and if you are gonna try to pound sand up my ass and say jefferson would have supported that your a fucking idiot. he would have told any governing world body to pound sand and "if you think you can take it, come and try"

your revolutionary history is very cloudy.

Bank to the topic...
Who was the 1st president?
There were 14 before Washington

Fourteen different men.

That is, if you count being President of the Continental Congress, or of the United States in Congress Assembled.

The Continental Congress was the deliberative body formed by the colonies to present their complaints to the British Crown and to show a united front to England in the face of perceived assaults on the liberties of the colonists in Massachusetts. In its second meeting, the Continental Congress declared the independence of the colonies from Great Britain, and asserted its own right to govern (legislate, conduct war, declare peace) for the colonies.

The Articles of Confederation, which provided a model for a more stable legislative government, were proposed to the states on 15 November 1777 but were not declared in force until 7 March 1781. At that time the Continental Congress officially became the "United States, in Congress Assembled." John Hanson was the first presiding officer who was elected under the Articles, and therefore some consider him the first to hold the title of "President of the United States."

However, the Presidents of the Continental Congress and of the United States, in Congress Assembled, were not in any sense executive officers. These men presided over Congress, but held no authority different from or vested elsewhere than in the Congress. That is, the Congress retained all executive powers, and exercised them as a body.

Presidents of the United States in Congress Assembled could be considered heads of government, but not heads of state. The impotence and relative insignificance of the presidency of the "United States in Congress Assembled" is apparent from the fact that John Hancock, elected to preside over that body in 1785, never served at all (owing to illness) and was not replaced until he resigned six months later.

The Articles of Confederation provided for a rather weak government for the fledging nation, and the need for an overhaul was soon apparent. After only six years in operation, a replacement for the Articles of Confederation was proposed, and the United States, in Congress Assembled met for the final time on 2 March 1789. Before that year was out, the Constitution of the United States took effect with the inauguration of George Washington.

While I would love to visit the gravesites of the true patriots listed below (and I have in fact visited a few of them), these Webpages consider the chronology of U.S. Presidents to have begun with the truly great man who first served in the office that was created for him by the Constitutional Convention in 1787.
President Term of Office
Peyton Randolph (VA) 5 September 1774 - 22 October 1774
Henry Middleton (SC) 22 October 1774 - 26 October 1774
Peyton Randolph (VA) 10 May 1775 - 24 May 1775
John Hancock (MA) 24 May 1775 - 1 November 1777
Henry Laurens (SC) 1 November 1777 - 10 December 1778
John Jay (NY) 10 December 1778 - 28 September 1779
Samuel Huntington (CT) 28 September 1779 - 10 July 1781
Thomas McKean (DE) 10 July 1781 - 5 November 1781
John Hanson (MD) 5 November 1781 - 4 November 1782
Elias Boudinot (NJ) 4 November 1782 - 3 November 1783
Thomas Mifflin (PA) 3 November 1783 - 30 November 1784
Richard Henry Lee (VA) 30 November 1784 - 23 November 1785
John Hancock (MA) 23 November 1785 - 29 May 1786
Nathaniel Gorham (MA) 6 June 1786 - 2 February 1787
Arthur St. Clair (PA) 2 February 1787 - 22 January 1788
Cyrus Griffin (VA) 22 January 1788 - 2 March 1789

And as for the other post above: We are being ripped off at the threat of jail if we don't give the UN money to give to other countries. We need to lock and load!!
