Hey, I really like helping others with their grow issues especially newbies. I have a bit of a dillema though. I have seen Thread 'Trolls' that often attack others, asking for help. I would like to believe that Mother Ganja would like me to offer any assistance I can for the sake of the plants. But, I also feel that karma is giving these jackasses their turnabout. What are your thoughts?

its the people who post unproven bollocks like they've just done it and proved it when they've never grown a thing in their lives or thereabouts. i've grown twice and dont profess to know it all but when i can help i do, but the more i learn the more i see idiots acting like they know it all

my thought is this is the internet. there will always be trolls, no matter what type of forum you on. my thought's is if you see a troll, just ignore the troll. responding to a troll is what makes a troll a troll. my advice would be to put trolls on ignore or just look past troll posts.

That is my thoughts as well. I am certainly no expert grower myself and I never offer grow advice to people if I don't know what I am talking about. For instance I will read through posts concerning DWC, aeroponics, and hydro grows. But I have never grown in these mediums so the replies I give are limited to suggesting pics or maybe more appropriate forums on RIU to post to get better answers.

Most people here just put out a question without looking for an answer first. I don't like spoon feeding people answers. I will usually refer Tummons to where they can find help.

i certainly mean no offense in my question but i am curious if you have grown mj? i appreciate your eagerness to help, just curious and didn't wanna go snooping thru your posts :peace:

I like to help folks, too; I truly believe in what we're doing. This being said, sometimes it's best to walk away. There are a lot of kids here.

It really is a shame most of us are here because we have painful ailments I really don't understand why people try to make someone who is suffering life any harder. That's a real Dick move imho.

that was me today, guy had two plants same strain one seriously dark green and all droopy and the other very light green almost yellow, tried to explain what hungry plants look like and had to apologise and back off when he came at me with ppm stuff.

still, RIU aint got that many trolls proportionate to other forums it seems and the difference RIU has made to my grows is unbelievable. i had a 3ft auto on my first grow that yielded 4g, last plant on first grow yielded a half o, now on the second grow i'm looking at 2oz per plant min. well worth the occaisional troll imo! lol

No need to get stressed just post help when you can. You will never be satisfied with the www or the other
people that are online. and most likely many that are not online at the time you are.

identifying trolls is a lot harder than it sounds. some people do know their shit but the way they dump all over other ideas is trollish. so then other people who know their shit but disagree with the first guy start dumping on that guy, and some poor noob's thread turns into a cunt-off. he just wanted to know if his lights were too close lol.

then you see the same new members trolling the newbie section answering every single thread with "i heard this" or "you want to do this". then someone who actually has a clue comes along to correct the info and THEY get treated like the troll.

"troll" has become more of a catchprase than an actual description lately. it's the go-to insult on forums. people use the word as a way to discredit people without actually discrediting them.

the best way to unearth a real troll is to look at their posts. people with 100 posts ALL giving generic advice or insults, but not a single pic or description of their own grow.

i blame the rep system. newbs in particular seem to think that a full rep bar makes what the poster says irrefutable, and they want to wield that "power". just go be a cop if you want to power trip. jeez.

I look at the rep bar and # of posts and see how they respond. I have 'unearthed' a few jack asses this way by reading their posts. There are several who disguise their trollness by constantly disagreeing with all previous posts and making their own inane suggestions. I have even seen some that seem to be malicious in that they give obviously wrong advice to newbies, and then when someone tries to point that out, the bitch fight begins. Thankfully I recently discovered the 'ignore' button!
