Would Love Some Advice!!!

Hello! I'm working on setting up my first grow! Got a room in my basement I would like to set up the project in! I'm really not interested in necessarily winning an award with this stuff or growing enough to smoke out a small army - but I do want to take a little pride in this and put a good foot forward. So without further ado...

I've been doing plenty of reading and a whole lot of thinking and I believe I've got a good idea on how I want this all to go down!

I want to grow four clones (clone strains are TBD, grabbing them in Portland, should be indica and 1 wk old) in 5 gal buckets with soil in a 2x2x8 grow box lined w/ Mylar and a fan positioned in a 6" exhaust port toward the top of the box for ventilation through another 6" port at the bottom. Water with a Dyna-Grow and Dyna-Bloom nutes. Lighting will be 1x400w MH lamp on a timer.

Having read about most growing techniques I plan on Mainlining all of them, that sounds like the best option for good yield and not having a limit on head space.

I was going to veg them at 18/6 until they reach 12" at which point they'd be flipped.

Then after that it'd be a matter of loving those ladies until they can be harvested!

SO, what I've got a couple of questions:

1. Mainlining - is that technique going to have the best yield/is it the best for the size of my room/lighting/medium/etc.)? It seems like technique choice is a little more about preference than anything - just wondering if there's a better option.

2. Vegging - should I veg to 12"? I know it's going to double/triple during flowering, so could I even veg to 16"? (what would the benefit of that be if I did?)

3. How long is all this going to take - it seems like this piece in particular is fairly arbitrary, but if anyone could through a rough timeline at me that'd be great!

In advance, thank y'all so much for the help! I really appreciate having people share their knowledge and experience!

Cheers folks!

Mainlining works best on plants grown from seed not clones - I would suggest lst instead. 12" would be sufficient if you plan to train them. And if you're purchasing an indica you're probably looking at 8 or 9 weeks from flip until harvest.

First off like Mick said Lst is a great training method that will increase your yield and help with height restrictions in your grow area here are some of my ladies after some lst training second a foot is a good start until you know how much that particular strain your growing will stretch then you can veg longer if you want as far as the time upon completion depending on strain flowering time anywhere between 6 to 16 weeks so just research your strain to find out and add a week to what the breeder recommends im not going to say good luck because a successful grow needs knowledge time and good ole love peace and btw and fairly new to this too

I like to say it is a 4 month investment or more in this hobby. One month veg minimum and at least 2-3 more months to finish. Not a hobby for the impatient, or those starving for meds, lol! Nothing I like seems to fininish right in 8 weeks, so 10 has become the norm.

Just some random thoughts, based on my opinions:

1. Mylar is not the best choice for the walls. It's hard to hang, hard to clean, and has hot spots. Use flat white paint instead. Easy to apply, has very good reflection, and is easy to clean.

2. You mentioned using a 400-watt MH. I suggest changing to a 400-watt HPS for flowering.

3. From seed, I always veg my plants to about 18 inches, or at least until I see signs of sexual maturity.

4. Lotsa people (including me) veg on a 24/0 light schedule. Marijuana does not need a dark period and will benefit from constant light in the veg cycle.

I have vegged every way and I do believe that 24/0 is the absolute best for me. My last 2 runs were 24/0 and the plants were far bushier than the previous same strain at 18/6. Stems were thicker too.
