I have not yet started growing yet but am moving to CO in February. My cousin is currently in Cali doing his first outdoor season and has several years of indoor experience but is stuck on HPS. We are both going to rent a place in CO and I have been doing some research into LED and am thinking it is the way to go. I just found out about area 51 today and am impressed with what i have read so far. I am looking at these w90s and do not quite understand the difference between the 3000k 4000k and 5000k models and was wondering if someone could explain this a little to me..any info would be greatly appreciated

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_temperature

Color temperatures over 5,000K are called cool colors (bluish white), while lower color temperatures (2,700–3,000 K) are called warm colors (yellowish white through red).[1] This relation, however, is a psychological one in contrast to the physical relation implied by Wien's displacement law, according to which the spectral peak is shifted towards shorter wavelengths (resulting in a more blueish white) for higher temperatures.

well i will ultimately want to build separate lights for each i'm just wondering about the basic components i have to buy to build a light

i definitely don't want to throw money away but i want to build good quality stuff that will last too

The basics are

Led Diode
Ac to DC Constant Current Driver
Heatsink
Fan / Power Supply for Active Cooling

Then all the little things:
Mounting hardware
Wire Connectors
Soldering Gun /Solderless Holders [Bridgelux also has Pico Ezmate]
multimeter
etc etc

ok well i could get 16 of the w90s shipped for 2325 which is only 145 a piece and honestly having a warranty and not having to take all the time to learn about it is probably a better option for me how much money would i save if i made them my self and do u think its worth my time learning about it...i'm fairly intelligent and have always been good at electronics and know that i could learn about it if i took the time to..but would the money i save be worth it or should i just go with the warranty

and do you think area 51 is the best bang for my buck and is it going to out perform hps if i cram the same amount of watts into a room?

I don't think you can go wrong with the W90's, but building a quality lamp is fully detailed in these threads and could save you 25% thru DIY.

The theory of AC//DC wiring is more complicated than the build and where most hang up.....
