Would Deer Do This?

I went to check on one of my plants today, and reapply the deer deterrent since we just finished with some heavy rain; and the top of my plant was completely gone, just as if it had been cut off. There was a large bud forming there two days before. At first I thought a person must have done it, because it the cut looked clean. However, would a deer have just bitten of the top of my plant like that? (In fact, saves me the trouble of topping the plant.) Or should I consider that plant compromised?

How tall was it?? usually deer go for the lower branches first because they are easier to reach. Also, a clean cut doesn't sound like it was bit off. I would assume that someone found your plant. Just my 2 cents.

dude i live in australia and our koala's, Kangaro's and any other ground dwelling creature are zombies for the herby fruit. I've grown numerous plants 1m tall and so on and i wake up to complete stalks all very clean cuts razor like and im 100% positive no one cut them because i live in the sticks. and you wouldn't want to top your plant when its flowering anyway cause it aint coming back.

My plant was two-and-a-half to three feet tall. It was taken off at the main stock where the first bud was forming, three or fout nodes down. The lower leaves remained untouched, roughly a two feet of the plant left growing in the ground.
