Working for a dollar

Welcome to Washington Spectator Online Most Americans daily experience a financial squeeze and the frenzied demands of their jobs and private lives. They see globalization fracturing the traditional linkages of skills, education and wages. They see the longstanding social contract with business and government unraveling in the form of stagnant wages, unaffordable health care, soaring energy costs, the cost of education spiraling out of reach and with it the promise of upward mobility, and the gradual demise of pension, retirement and health plans—the mainstays for aging Americans. In short, their standard of living is declining or threatened. Yet political and media elites wonder aloud in bewilderment why Americans are wrestling with economic insecurity. Most Americans get it, however. They realize their country is on the wrong track and that its government institutions and elected leaders are failing Them! I hope the Democrats pay attention!

Nope, not an elite. All is lost, Med. The world is a very negative place. People are starving in the streets as we speak. Due to lack of medical care, living wages, and free goodies at the expense of others, there is just no reason to go on. Again ... I think I'll just kill myself.

Oh my god, that's too fuckin funny!! Where did you get that?
If you only knew how many borderline personality disordered assholes I've had to deal with in my career who play at suicide and self-harm, carving themselves up to one extent or another, then calling for help and passivley standing by while the rest of us scramble to save their miserable fucking lives....they're the worst! Because of course they never do it right and get off on all the drama that surrounds them...it becomes a form of "high" and they make it a lifestyle. It's really sick and I hate like hell having to play my part in it...just once I want to walk over to one of these guys and look down at him and say "bye-bye" and let em bleed out, however long it takes.

Vi Corporations get more goodies at the expence of tax payers than the poor, those without medical coverage or those starving in the streets.
That is what I have been trying to explain to you for 5 years Vi.

Yes Dank, you've been saying that for five years now, and I keep saying to you ... tell me what street you were on when you last saw an American die of starvation in this country? And ... again, federal law prohibits ANY hospital from turning away ANY emergency, regardless of ability to pay.

What about disease, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure etc. These are all things that if left un-treated, will certainly cause an un-timely death. I think I've seen you post something that you have to take medication for> what if you were homeless and didn't have any medical care and you needed Medicine to live. Would you vote for national Health care? I'll bet you an 1/8 of my white widow , if you were honest, you'd vote yes. The real deal here is to walk a mile in the other guys shoes before you just close him out. For all we know, you'd be dead already if it weren't for your medicine, and as you were dying you could crawl to the front door of the hospital and beg for help, maybe they'd help you and maybe it'd be too late! Where's your christian ethics? love one another! love your neighbor as you love yourself. Help the helpless! Give unto ceasar what is ceasars and give unto God what is Gods! I believe this was Jesus's answer to the tax question!

Yes, that’s about the extent of it Med.
You see I don’t mind paying taxes as long as they are used correctly. Pork barrel spending should never enter the equation, nor should starting wars under false pretences in order to enrich one’s self once a setting president is out of office. If the Government would cut out the pork barrel spending and stop this war and quit giving corporate subsidies, we as a nation could sustain programs such as Universal Health Care, Social Security. Shit what we spend on this war for 2 weeks would support universal health care for a year. You see if you keep the population healthy in the first place, you have a much more productive work force. With a population of 300,000,000 and growing we would easily be able to afford all of the above. You see in Europe they have negative population growth, that is why their system will collapse and ours wouldn’t with such a system.

Dank & Med ...

Whom is responsible for your medical care?

Vi

PS: Dank ... you have yet to validate your "starving in the street" claim.

How often do you walk the streets instesead of driving down it.
We are the only civilized nation in the world that treats their homeless the way we do.

Below is part of my validation, read it and weep.
-------------------------

The U.S. Agriculture Department's annual Household Food Security report for 2003, considered by some as the most authoritative estimate of hunger in the United States, was supposed to be released around Oct. 28 2004.
Nancy McNiff, a spokeswoman for USDA's Economic Research Service, which publishes the report, said it "was held for further review."
McNiff would not elaborate and referred further inquiries to the USDA's main press office. USDA said a date has not been set for the report to be released.
USDA spokeswoman Julie Quick said the department was allowing other agencies to review it first for accuracy.
Phil Singer, a spokesman for Democratic challenger John Kerry said: "Here's an example of the Bush 'see no evil, hear no evil' philosophy at work."
The Bush campaign did not immediately return a call for comment.
Last year, the USDA said 11.1 percent of American households could not afford enough food for an active, healthy lifestyle, up from 10.7 percent the year before. The report, conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, is based on a survey of 50,000 households last December.
The report was published last year on Oct. 31 and the year before on Nov. 12.
Poverty is often linked to hunger and starvation. The Census Bureau reported in August that the number of poverty-stricken Americans rose by 1.3 million in 2003 to 35.9 million.
The USDA report focuses on food insecurity -- that is not having access to enough food for a healthy lifestyle. But it also addresses hunger.
The report said last year that in 2002 an estimated 3.8 million households in the United States (or 3.5 percent of U.S. households) went hungry, up from 3.3 percent in 2001.

Dank ...

I'm not denying that we have homeless people who need charity. Not at all. Most homelessness is caused by mental illness, acute alcoholism, and drug additions, especially addictions to heroin, crack & meth.

Here's what I would propose: That we reopen the mental hospitals. That we reinstitute vagrancy laws. That we round up the bums, hobos and pan-handlers and put them in the mental hospitals for treatment where they belong.

Of course, the communist originated ACLU would find fault with these solutions, just like they did back in the 70s. They presented law suits on the homeless' behalf and fought vagrancy laws ... because in their minds, vagrants have a "right" to be "sick" in public.

In other words, the homeless problem is just more unintended consequences of the "Do-Gooders."

I wouldn't fault the ACLU so much, if it weren't for them the government would be arresting more Medical Marujuana patients because State law doesn't jive with Federal law. Remember that it was them who went to bat for Medical Marijuana and for Doctors who perscribe Medical Marijuana in Federal court.
Yes I will concead that the ACLU does take on cases that they shouldn't, but all in all they are a good agentcy for defending peoples right against the Government.

Everytime the "government" tries to round up the homeless, i.e., the bums, hobos, the brain addled drug addicts and the mental cases from the streets of Downtown L.A., the ACLU steps in and files lawsuits claiming that their "rights" are being violated. Is it really the fault of capitalism that we have these people on the streets, or is it the fault of the "Do Gooders?"

Anytime the Government wants to start rounding people up because of some label they've put on them, I hope someone steps in to protect them (ACLU or anyone else)! Thats what Hitler did to the Jews, Remember! BTW is that all you care about, rounding up all the undesirables, so your commute won't be distasteful? My what a shallow human being you are! Here's a question! What if the govt. wanted to start rounding up all the pot smokers, would that bother your warped mind?
