(WITH PICS) How Long Is Too Long

I know my ladies are not ready to be pulled yet. I want as much narcotic effect out of them I can get. I was thinking 40 - 50% amber when I chop. How far can they go before the amber doesn't matter, you killed your smoke? For instance, would 60-70% be too much or a damn powerful night time smoke? Thanks in advance, here are some pics of what I'm looking forward to smoking.

all amber if you want that narcotic couch lock high. you have plenty of time to determine that its done before it starts going down in quality as long as you check your plants once every day or 2 when you think they might be real close.

seems too much, from what i have read (in all fairness, there is a lot of shitty info out there) after a point, it just dies off and is basically useless. i figured all amber is dead. do you have any sources to support that? i would love to read more into it.
