Willow water vs clone gel side by side

So I'm getting ready to make some willow water to clone with since getting clone gel where I'm at is a pain...anyone done any side by side comparisons with willow water vs clone gel? Just figured it would be nice to see if someone had done one or if anyone has any input on the matter

Well you need to do one with clone gel, one with willow water, and one with nothing at all to really gauge an experiment. I would be curious as to which works the best. And all three clones would have to be the same size and from the same plant for it to really be an experiment. But if you promise to keep some controls in place, then I will be interested in the turnout of this experiment.

Oh absolutely...the title was supposed to be a question to see if anyone had run a side by side. But I'd be will to just run it myself and post up what I find...my veg plants aren't quite ready to be clipped but when they are I'll do it

I have found that the difference between using rooting gel and using nothing is actually pretty minimal...but minimal can make a difference when you have a schedule to keep.

I have noticed the difference between expired rooting compound and fresh. So as far as a no rooting compund be a minimal difference than with is in my experience false info. With out the rooting compounds the stem cant blister, with out blistering your cuts wont root. Although a simple 3 day soak in distilled water, gave me roots in 5 days. So in just 8 days they were spitting out roots.

I don't think it's false info...there are just so many other variables to consider...the rooting compound and medium seem to be the two constants....how the cuts were taken how they were handled, did u allow air into the stem, is your environment stable and on and on all have a big bearing on the clones...I do agree that no gel would be better than "expired" gel though...I started with a point somewhere in here

Well I use a cloner, and I get the first roots in around 3 days after putting them in with rooting gel..without the gel I get my first roots in 5 days or so...but either way the plants are ready to be planted in a week or so...if I leave them an extra week then they are established and start to regrow...so I try to plant my clones before the 2 week mark...

Yea I would classify two days difference as minimal since it still keeps u in your two week window...what gel do u use/prefer?

I make up a batch of willow water every spring when the willows bud here in Michigan. The color
is the same as the rooting gel, Rootech, I use. I'm sure you could add beeswax to a batch of willow
juice and make your own cloning gel.

Would think adding powdered sea kelp to make a paste would work too or honey...

I have used Clonex, Rootone powder, and some other gel I got from x nutrients in a sample package. I haven't really noticed a difference between them really. I feel like cloning gel is yet another of those things that we all use, but could go without.

I remember seeing a side by side years ago. it was water, gel, powder, dip n grow and some others... using peat pucks... I think it was on RIU, or maybe thcfarmer....?

The water rooted the fastest.
