um no dirt in a hydroponics why because of mold and well lets be logical runoff

you don't want to mix soil with hydro........ but other than that, you setup is very do able...... the reason is because soil is messy, it will erode and fill the bottom of your pot, if not just run right through the bottom, effectively taking away all the support at the base of the plant.
