will this aero system work?

I would like to try using an aeroponic system. I was reading over stinkbud's harvest a pound every 3 weeks thread here https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/116859-harvest-pound-every-three-weeks.html

and I liked the idea of using rubbermaid containers. Ive included a pic of his design at the bottom. What I would like to do is to have two 18 gal containers and use one as a resivoure and one for roots to grow in. The resivoure would be in a remote location a little ways away from where the plants were growing but a pump would pump water and neuts through ez cloner spray nozzles for 1 min every 5 min. I guess my only concern would be is an 18 gal container big enough to support maybe 14 plants from veg on through flowering? Or should I go with a bigger container? Also after the sprayers are turned off should the leftover water in the plant container be drained back into the resivoure or should I let it sit in there with an added airstone or something?

If you are talking about the pic added toward the bottom, then yes that setup does work. It is exactly what I have for vegging and flowering. You just need to make sure you have good drainage back into your reseviors, so you don't have too much standing water in the bottom of the plant boxes. Check my grow journal for pics of my setup.:bigjoint:

I forgot to answer your question about the amount of plants. Yes that container is too small for that many plants, especially in flowering stages. But for vegging you should be alright but if it were me I would definitely go up a size or two just to be safe.:bigjoint:

well if you clone and then veg for 2 weeks max then flower it should be fine for about 12-18 plants. I assume you are going for a sog.

Thanks! You are correct the second pic is what I want to build.

I'd like to do one sog and one scrog too see which I like better. So 12-18 plants in an 18gal gal container with an 18 gal seperate resivoure. How about scrog if I wanted to use one 18gal container with an 18 gal remote resivoure from veg to flower and scrog my plants how many plants should I put per container?

I have 18 in the stinkbud setup flowering right now, as long as you dont veg to long you should be ok, and you want the root chamber to drain completely.

is it best for the roots to be completely suspended and not touching the bottom or sides of the root chamber or does it matter? One other thing I was thinking of in stinkbud's setup would it better to add spray nozzles to the bottom and sides of the pvc frame thats connected to the water pump that way all portions of the roots are getting misted rather than just the parts closest to the top of the root chamber?

It doesnt matter if they hang or sit on the bottom, it will work either way you just have to worry about the roots clogging the drain if there is a lot on the bottom. You only need sprayers at the top, it might only be getting sprayed at the top but its falling everywhere, trust me there is plenty of coverage.

if you scrog 1-3 but you will want them to veg for 3-6 weeks to get big, alsoi find using those sink drain strainers do a good job of keeping things out of the drain
