I am horrible with electricity or anything related to it hence why I am asking for help, oh that and I'm still a n00b grower...anyways...

I'm currently in the middle of my 18/6 veg cycle and my MDT-1 light timer just took a shit. I'm running one 1000w MH bulb and need to know if there is a cheap ass timer I can get by with. I'm talking like $20-$30 max... I have been searching but I figured someone here has to have a good, cheap light timer they can recommend to me. Also, since my mdt-1 is fucked and was going to be connecting both 1000w (x2) ballasts when flowering time comes, is there a timer that can handle both 1000w HPS bulbs??

Any help is appreciated and I will +rep anyone that gives solid advice.

Many thanks in advance.

won't something simple like this work: http://amzn.to/lfz2Q5

You might be getting close to 15 amps at two 1000 watt bulbs though, so at that point you may need to get 2 or find one that goes to at least 20 amps... It may work though, especially if you're on a 15 amp breaker already anyway.

well, it will at least control the light and get you the right time on/off, but you wont get any extra features or safety checks... so as long as you know about all that, then yeah it should work fine. If you have to run two bulbs, you might want to run each on a separate timer...

I have a background in electronics, so I know that will work, but I'm new to growing, so I don't know if there are any other special features to the timer you had that this won't replicate. That's why I wasn't 100%

Nope, nothing special. I wasted $100 on a Sentinel MDT-1 Timer that lasted a week and died. I bought it from some guy on craigslist and it looked brand new, obviously used, but in great condition... but I doubt I can get a warranty on it. It had a recycle timer and temp probe that I didn't use.

I'm going to get a 15A power strip and two el cheapo timers and see how it works. Thanks for your help man. It's greatly appreciated.
