Will refrigeration speed drying?

I hate the summer to grow, especially the humidity which severely fucks with my drying time. I just had a brain storm, in that refrigeration dries the shit out of you bread if you leave it in the fridge, so why not with herb. Just put 5-1 gal jars in my refrigerator, lids off and loose pack, after doing everything that I could think of to dry that shit, because I always dry in my basement in the winter. I don't have ac, except in my BR, which I really don't want to hang plants in. What do you think, will it work? Peace out.

no , if your temp is to high your weed will go rotton before it drys out,if you temp is too low it will take to longer to dry out and go rotton before it does,,also im not sure on this but it will probly lose its potency or flavour before it gets close to drying out ,,, think about food in you fridge,,,basil just goes rotton before it drys out ,,ok that's all i know

Get a fan and spread your product out so none of the buds are touching each other. This cuts my dry/cure time in half. BigSteve.

If you're not sure about something, don't offer it as advice. Seriously?

Buy a dehumidifier

Whats wrong with just hanging them up to dry ? At worst you might need a dehumidifier as mentioned here if your humidity is extreme, but its a process you dont want to rush through either.

Thanks for all the responses fellow growers. I did some more research, and according to Mother Earth, it is one of the best ways to dry , at least garden herbs like rosemary, thyme, sage. I had to do something, as humidity levels were 80 + and nothing was drying, and customers were banging on my door. So, I tried it last night by putting my bud loosely in 1 gallon jars, emptied my fridge and put 6 jars in. This morning BIG difference. It seems to really work. Supposedly much better than heat sources, such as attics, cable boxes, etc. I hope this info helps more people like me, who runs into summer humidity and doesn't have AC to help drying. Peace out

Too big an area, and too much bud. It would have to run 24/7 and my electric bill is insane as it is now. I tried a small one in a closet, but it didn't seem to help much. Thanks for the input.

Hey JIm how did this end up panning out for you. I was thinking about this the other night, and had pretty much the exact same logic you started this thread with . It seemed like the process could work great. I had figured on spreading it out on a screen, or possibly hang drying whole plants in a fridge since I grow single cola SOG.

I was mildly concerned that the bud might smell like the fridge. Anyway I was glad when I saw you tried it already .

Jeez, that was an old post that I totally forgot about
It works, but I found it impractical as I had no room for food
Now I have a closet with a dehumidifier just for drying, plus I try not to harvest in August when the humidity is the highest.

Grew a winter crop and hung it in the garage (around 8degrees Celsius but dry as heck) to dry this year, only took half the time, and no cure, but the bag appeal for smell is a huge fail. Smells like a box of corn flakes. Lol

that's the entire problem with drying quickly...there are chemical processes that have to happen, and they only happen within a certain range of moisture content...once the moisture level drops below about 55% they stop dead. if that happens before those processes are done, there is still a lot of chlorophyll, carbs, and sugars that should have broken down, but didn't have the chance, so you get harsh, hay smelling weed that leaves a lot of nasty looking black ash....
as far as i've been able to tell, 5 days is the bare minimum it takes for the majority of that stuff to break down, 7 to 10 is better.

Yeah the practicality of the size of space was obviously a concern.

Also I hadn't been thinking about this to dry quickly, more like could a fridge be used to create sort of a perfect drying chamber. Set the correct humidity maybe and have temps low at the same time. I was sort of envisioning a larger commercial walk in cooler if the concept had any payoff on the small scale.

I don't currently have a drying issue to fix. This idea was more of a what could be the next step in control.

I found that a piece of apple in the jar rejuvenates weed that hasn't been cured properly. Did you try that?

up to a certain point. if the curing process is still happening, even a little, you can get it going again, if the rh has dropped so much that they've completely stopped, they won't start again.

No I didn’t but that’s a great idea. I suppose you could use other fruit to flavour / hydrate?

I've have often suffered this so I use the water cure

more so if I intend to cook with it later

simply gently soak you weed

for me thats 4 days at room temp say 15c

change the water daily to remove all that crappy Chloro-pyll

be gentle as cold water will snap the trics off

later hang as sox to dry at about 24h
