Will mylar benefit my room? Questions about mylar for my grow room.

What do you think about the mylar? Are my walls close enough to the plants to make a difference? Or would I have to have something closer to the plants the mylar on that? Should I put it on the ceiling? Does it help with heat signatures (even though I am legal through the police, I was able to talk a thermal camera out of my physics lab said it was to check for air leaks, and thieves use them to look for random grow-ops)?

Please take a look at my grow journal to get an idea of how far the walls are apart. I was not wanting to move my lights any closer to the walls. So would it help? Should I get big sheets of cardboard to put this stuff on or just stick it to the walls and ceiling?

I am using mylar on my grow just the thinner stuff though. It a 1 ml. It seems to work great for me and offers great reflectivity(almost 98%). You can check it out in my grow closet on my grow journal.

Mylar only reflects the direct light effectively. So you do not need to put it on the ceiling or above the lights.

You can use mylar for side paneling. I personally just paint the walls white. I saw a guy that smoothed out the mylar perfectly onto firm cardboard panels. It looked like a mirror. That was slick...

I would just do paint dude.

A couple of things to consider.....

Mylar will not hide your heat signature. Mylar is the most reflective of the three most popular choices, Mylar, Panda Poly or bright white paint. Mylar cannot be easily wiped clean. Enamel paint and panda poly can be. Using paint, you can also request a fungicide additive that prohibits fungus growth in warm and humid climates (hint hint).

I prefer Panda Poly at 6 mils. it is highly reflective, easy to clean and is 100% light proof. You only need a reflective material on the walls and the floor/base. Panda Poly makes a great material to fashion light proof areas in a closet as well by making curtains. Something I would not try with mylar or paint. lol

I also noticed a difference in temp using mylar, nothing major but a little bit. I agree with serapis, Poly is the way to go and easy to keep clean. You can also divide a room with it ect, for multiple areas.

panda is the the right way to go aka "pOLy"...

But if your doing it the cheap way and your just basically trying out a small grow, go to wal-mart,target,kmart etc and get the heat blanket that people use to keep there ass's warm when they get lost..lol.. that shyt is mylar.!!!

but if this is a serious grow room go with the poly!!!

what are the dimensions? i looked at the pics but i want to make sure i understand, from what ive seen putting mylar on the walls with how far away from the plants they are seems kind of pointless. Plus its already painted white where it would matter when they grow up some.

thanks everyone! Yea I put that strip up because my investor insisted on mylar. I always have used white paint, oddly enough none of the local hydros carry poly they tell you to buy it at menards and home depot...everyone must be doing this because i haven't seen white poly in there for months....but my investor bought two rolls of 2 mil so I was just going to throw a little up or sell it/trade it ... probably going to put 2 more lights in and i think the plants are going to end up closer to the wall than they are now because i am having a hard time walking between my aisle now to water
