will iPower ballast hood work with diff ballast brand???

I have a regular hood that came with my 600w ipower hps well I took that off and replaced it with a air cool. My question is will that hood I took off work for a 250w hps for gotham hydroponics? The hps is way cheaper if I purchase it with no hood

Wouldn't that hood be spreading that light kind of thin...designed for 600 but used for 250? When in doubt I use my light meter that I bought off of ebay a few months ago for around $20

just have to make sure lamp cord from hood fits ballast. or get and adapter. and make sure you have lamp with a base that fits hood
