will drying buds too long take away from their smell?

if i dry my bud too long will it take away from their smell? i noticed i had left this one little piece of bud that broke of fmy plant too long and it doesnt smell as strong now.

but then last time i cured too early and they just smelled like grass after the cure.

then also i had a litttle baggy that i left out and it got all dry now its not very stinky either

I think you answered your own question. Yes, leaving bud unsealed will diminish both potency and smell/flavor. Though it's not a rapid process by any means.
