iv touched mine a few times, never did any harm... yet lol.

The hps bulb needs a mogul sized recepticle and a specifically designed ballast to run it. Touch the bulb with your fingers leaves oils on it which will supper heat and greatly increase possibility of explosion.If you touch it wipe it with alcohol pad then allow to dry for a day to make sure no alcohol is left on the bulb.
