Will a 250W CFL work on a 200W max lamp?

I'm on a low budget for a while, one of the last things I need to finish is 2700k CFL's.

For some reason the 250W is cheaper than the 200W. But my lamps say max 200W. Will the 250W bulb work on the 200W max lamp?

I am assuming the 250w CFL will work on the lamp but the output will only be 200W. (Which is fine because I doubt the 250W is actually going to draw the full 250W; because reviews say that the real wattage is less than 250w anyway.)

you didn't answer my question... And i'm not going to buy a new mogul plug when I already have three reflecting lamps.


However, from what I read I have to worry about the wires in the lamp possibly overheating, or the bulb overheating, or it overloading the circuit. . I found a 200W CFL for like $2 more. I'm just going to buy a 200W just to be safe. I don't want to start a fire...

I have a 105 w bulb in a 100 w max fitting, I didn't realise it would limit the bulb to 100 watts, I thought it just meant the fitting wasn't made of ceramic etc.. (Heat resistance) and you should make sure it's not getting to hot as to melt the plastic...

But for sure get the 200 I wouldn't risk 50 w extra.

Ya well they were out of the 200w so I had to buy a 150w... I'm approaching flowering soon and I couldn't wait until 2/8 for them to get in stock.

I would have rather done 600w than 450w but ohh well.

It doesn't limit it. It draws what the bulb is rated. If the bulb is rated higher than the plug, it will heat the wires up. It could cause a fire. You are probably OK being five over.

You can run the 250 bulb in the 200 socket. Is it safe? Maybe, maybe not.

Do you own the place you are hanging the lights? If you don't its something to think about. Burn someone's house down trying to grow pot is sure to be some kind of charge.

Your best bet is not to exceed the ratings on electrical equipment. Yea, yea you or others have done it 1000 times. It only takes once.

Finally I would urge you to do it proper for another reason. Cannabis is not legal on federal level. We are gaining ground.

I think it is our duty, as cannabis growers, to do it safely and set an example.

I hate it when I see stories involving pot and a fire or butane explosion. It makes cannabis users look bad.
