Ok. They can still show preflowers. Stigmas, what you call pistils, will show as wispy white hairs, usually two right next to each other, hiding behind leaf spurs. May show as early as 3 weeks, usually by 6 weeks.

Males grow balls. Impossible to miss.

That means it has shown it's maturity. Some growers say that after it shows pre flowers, is it safe to induce flowering. Reduces the risk of hermies I think.
