Why would you flower a new clone?

Now keep in mind, I've never cloned before but I would like to start.

I always here about taking the clone straight to flowering. Shouldn't you veg it so it can get bigger? Your basically flowering a little plant when you send a clone to flower right away.

Reason?

Some people like to grow lots of single/large colas. Check out SOG/ScROG stuff, really fun if you're good.

SOG and SCROG are completely different and SCROG has nothing to do with flowering straight from seed or clone
Think he was just referring of an effective method to deal with smaller plants. SCROG may work well with clones put right into 12/12 compared to other styles, with enough light of course.

I'm assuming he wasn't just high.

I've seen (from videos) growers take a clone from a mother plant that hasn't been sexed, due to a constant veg cycle, and place them to flower to make sure they are females. That's just to sex a cutting though...
