Why would the light facing side of these buds turn purple, but under its still green?

I think it's something to do with the light maturing the colas. I've noticed this with buds that were buried under the canopy. It's like when they are light green down low compared to the darker green colas of a non purple strain.
I know what you're talking about. Some of those ones down at the bottom or caught between other large buds are always a brighter fresher type of green. And in the same way the purple is just a sign of it maturing and the undersides that get less light are maturing slower. That makes sense. This is the first purple plant I've had. I didn't even know this thing was going to turn purple. It surprised me at first, I thought it was dying or something. Thank you for the help.
