Why use energy saver lights??

Hey everyone, I am pretty new to this all and was just wonderin why people use energy saver lights on clones etc..???

well theyre cheap to buy and to run, and they dont get really hot at all, but they dont really werk in flowering tho
Ok thanx would you mind if i asked some questions bout my setup???

hows it. Iv got 10 clones about 2inch tall lookin pretty good prob bout a week and half old. i have them in a box prob 2foot by 2 foot. iv got a hps energy saver, just 1 lol and also have them sitting on a heat tray. the babys are still in jiffy pots. iv been feeding them sterile water once a day.
Was just wanting tips from anyone plzzzz??? I am a noobie lol
How far should i have the light from the babys? Will try get pics up soon!!

I will assume you meant to say CFL (compact flourescent light) energy saver. I have never heard of HPS (high pressure sodium) energy saver. If it is a cfl you can keep it within 2" of the tops of the plants. You want to go easy with the lighting at this stage, but you are going to need more light once the clones are rooted and growing.

YEP! hps is not an energy saver product, at all. couldnt of said it better if u meant cfl's!

if you have the right kind, 2700k... Maybe you just meant they don't work nearly as well as an hps light?

i have never seen proof or tested this myself.. but i have been told that with cfls, that the 'energy saver' bulbs get better penetration and can therefore reach more of the plant.
and also the obvious reason of saving money

hey ROLLITUP'ers i misread it. It says its an ecobulb 13w HPF not an HPS as i stated before. Would this be ok or does it have too low wattage. Sorry for the confusion n cheers heaps for tha feedback

You will need more watts to get them to a decent size. I don't know much about the cfls and other low wattage bulbs but I do know that it takes some watts to make them grow. Even a couple flourescent tubes can get you by until they are ready to go outside. Make sure you get the 6500k daylight bulbs for vegging.
