WHY IS TRANSPLANTING FROM SMALL TO LARGE POT IMPORTANT?

I like small pots at first for the simple reason is I can veg them for a bit in much less sq footage.... It'd take 1k hid to light up 9 5 gallon containers
when I could veg the same 9 under 200w of t5 in cups or 1 gal.

That makes perfect sense.

It comes down to preference.

I only grow a few at a time. Autos or photos. Either way I prefer to plant straight to big pots. It allows for better growth in a fixed amount of time.

If I could have the plant numbers and run perpetual I would have a bunch of plants in small containers.

Because you can fit a lot more small plants under one light if they are in appropriate sized pots rather than their final pots which will maximise your veg area. Some people may be growing for show but im in it for quantity and potting up is best practice and use of space.

That only applies to your situation.
