Why don't males ever hermie?

Wow...that's a great question. I have never witnessed nor heard of a male hermed into a female. I had a neat experience during my grow last year. I dedicated a tent to breed a male Jamaica Airee to a female Bubblegum (turned the tent white inside). It was a very successful breeding and I let the male finish out right along with the girl. The JA produced really nice sticky colas. Here's what I got on the 2 plants in the tent:

Just recently had a male GrapePuff turn hermie in my pollen cab...
Figure you just don't hear much about them because most peeps aren't too interested in growing male plants...

I have heard males can hermie, it's just most don't keep a male alive long enough to become a hermie....they are dead meat as soon as pods/sacs appear

I believe it has to do with their genetic responsibilities. Males are programmed to just release their pollen, they don't care where that pollen goes. Female plants on the other hand have the responsibility of getting pollinated so that they can create seeds, and they'll do everything they can to do so! Sometimes that means turning into a hermaphrodite.

Thanks for the replies.

I had one male turn up out of the four seeds I planted this first grow. But, instead of killing it right away, I decided to use it as a learning device for trying out some branch-bending. I bent the shit out of a few branches and then observed how it healed itself. I thought about putting a baggie over the male flowers and then collecting some of the pollen and trying to pollinate a few of the leftover lower branches of the three girls, just for educational purposes. I think it got stressed when I removed it from the tent, though…and the branch-bending probably stressed it. It just stopped its active growth. The soil was staying wet a long time so I knew it wast drinking. I finally put it out of its misery. There are some things that a male plant can teach you before it gets chopped - I mean if you're a newbie like me! :)

i have had a couple of males do this. it is called a reverse hermie. usually the ales are pulled before they have a chance to do it, so it is less common.

I'm now biologist and don't really know at all but I would think it would have something to do with X and Y chromosomes.

males do hermie, but like has already been said, most of the times males get pulled the second they show sex, so hearing about males going hermie is no where as common as when the girls do it..
