Why does everyone harvest their C99 so early? and Looking at trichomes through telescopes.

Yes, this is a thinly veiled "Is it done yet" thread. Just curious why I see so many C99 grows on this forum being cut with loads of white hairs. Is it better to harvest C99 earlier or do you think the plant below will put on some weight yet? Was planning on cutting in a few days, about day 60 from flip.

Pictures were taken with a 750mm lens because I didn't want to wait for my phone to charge to check trics. It didn't work out too well as the depth of feild is ~1cm. Pictures below are scaled to 1/4 or a 1:1 crop of the original image. Second post will contain pic of whole plant and pics from a 20x clip on lens for a cellphone that actually show the trichomes because the long lens is almost useless. What do you think, can I cut her now or is a few days not enough?

honestly idk but growing a c99xbb fast so hoping that goes decent
gl. It's been my favourite to grow so far (in my limited experience) I've been growing this sativa that takes a good 11-12 weeks and this has been a pleasant change. The smell is a real nice change as well, to not come home to hardcore weed smell.

ooh i saved my first c99 grow trich pics. I think i harvested some 1 week or 2 after, then the final 1/2 - 1/4 after 3-5 weeks after these pics.
Turned out nice! But I think my genetics or something may have been off'

I also got this shit-ass bunk pheno that was variegated . I kept it cause I hoped it would turn out good but it was shit!
these seeds were from Growers choice. I've talked to other growers and theses aren't really "real"c99 seeds. I guess that goes for alot of shit!

gonna keep poppin stuff for now. Hopping around to a few breeders one at a time to test their shit. maybe in 5 years I'll know what I like :)

Why post trich pics this early, ditch the loupe and let nature take its course for a few weeks. Those who cant jusge peak harvest by eye are not ready for loupes and hence the reason peeps pic far too early :-)

I'll give it time, but is is *that* far off? There are no white hairs sticking out, calyxes are swollen at least on the very tops, I think all the trichomes are cloudy on the calyxes, and the vendor lists them as early as 49 days (now 58 or 59).

It was even remarked on one other c99 grow journal here that everyone pulls them early and 'there must be a reason why'.. I see a lot of c99 grow being cut at what I would consider early and thought that maybe by cutting late it looses that heady feeling. I also took a sample about a week ago and it smoked well, just want to get as much weight as possible.

You cant pick weed early and expect to see its full qualities strength and high, it will just be weak short lived weed, no strain does this and sativa is less body more head but you still need to let it fully mature.

You say there are no white pistils... actually there in most of your pictures :-)

It doesn't matter how many days the "Vendor" lists them as being done in. They'll be done when they're done. Those have a couple weeks left. They look like you hit them a little heavy with bloom nutes or bloom boosters.

What the breeder states in days from flower when ready , in my experience, is never true. Always take longer. It makes a world of a difference being patient and waiting it out. Growing outdoor you need to keep an eagle eye out for any budrot starting or worms or aphids, etc. when they're finishing up. Just like ripe fruit!

I ran 4 female seeds C99 years ago. Of those 4 I got 2 distinct phenotypes. I tried them at various harvest dates, and found that about 65-70 days from actual flower formation was when my plants were finished. You can ignore any flower time the breeder tells you. Your plants won't be finished until they are finished.

If you actually let your plants finish they will give you the most yield, and the best quality smoke and high.

Keeping an eye on them and the difference between when the pics were taken and now (4 days) is huge. More than I would have thought. I'll try to post a pic at harvest time to show the difference for future visitors to this thread.

Who's your C99 breeder
Don't know. Bought from qcs. Says it's a cross between two of the original Grimm c99s and matures faster.

Your plants won't be finished until they are finished.
And I hope that one day I can just look at them and tell, just haven't seen enough yet.

I had 3 phenos out of 4 seeds from FMS; one grapefruit, two pineapple, and one peach. The peach was the frostiest and fastest flowering, but also the lowest yielding. The grapefruit and pineapple phenos went 63 days, prolly coulda went a few days longer but they were starting to throw a few nanners at the end. None of the phenos were tasty enough to keep. If I grow C99 again I will likely go with a different breeder.

You are expecting too much for speed. It’s a full sativa and getting one to finish in under 70 days is an achievement.

I just noticed the other night that Duke Diamond who was part of Brothers Grimm has released a special “Dukes Vault” release which has a bunch of C99 crosses that were supposed to be from original seed stock. It peaked my interest to say the least.

The more plants you grow the better you will understand them. It’s really not that complicated once you have the patience to let some plants actually reach full potential. Most cannabis plants go through a very predictable growth and maturation process.

Well, it finally got cut (the tops anyways, I am going to give the bottom another 5 days-ish because there's no space to dry it all). It's been 12 days after the first pics were taken so here's the update pics.

Tops hanging in drying box, airflow is in though the sides and out the top. Messed up the stringing so there is less space than usual. This will be an experiment as I've never tried drying with the box that empty.. I feel like there is too mix airflow.

Feel free to tell me I still messed up and cut early.
