Why do people use Autoflowers after their 1st grow?

The plant to the top left is Mephisto Alien V Triangle. She is exactly 4 weeks from seed. The other 3 are HSO Bubba Kush Auto. They are 6 weeks from seed and are identical to one another. When you grow reliable autos you can dial it in. I will harvest at day 80 and I already know what they'll look like because they look the same every time.

The answer to the OP's question is simple. It's because most of us are novices who grow for personal use, friends and family, etc. Autos are fast and are getting better and better, but there's little room for error with them. I grow photos too...but now that I have had a range of really good autos, I don't see the point in growing photos anymore. I'm not saying autos are better...just that they make much more sense If you have any kind of life away from home.

Because i bought 10 seeds :D

Just kidding I'm very happy with the results, I just got 13oz from 2 autos in a 2x2 with a 200W QB on my 2nd grow ever, no pH ec ppm stuff, 20-20-20 once a week all the way 18/6 no defoliation no effort. Would do it again.
If you own 28 different foods , 65 different additives and 14 jugs of molasses and not one single book on plants then that is the problem.

Auto's have definitely gotten better. Maybe it's from using strains other than ruderalis. Some Middle Eastern region strains will initiate flowering extremely early. I just grew some Egyptian Sinai and both male and female plants started flowering under 18/6 after around 5 weeks. I've had similar experience with Moroccan strains. These strains are going to be better all around than ruderalis.
It is better breeding... You need the ruderalis for the auto traits... After you get that, you want to breed out as many other ruderalis traits as possible. Good breeders do that. The autos you got 10-12 years ago were just the start. Breeders had just started playing with the auto traits. Now days you can get autos that are as good as photos. It's all because of better breeding practices.

My opinion? Because as a new grower, the idea of harvesting a fully mature plant in 90 days from seed is super intriguing. They "seem" easier at a glance too.
Guilty. Got two photos started now and four autos a week into flower. This is my last auto run. Gonna use rest of my auto seeds for outdoor and say goodbye to them. My biggest problem is indoors they just dont get big enough before they start to flower. Would much rather have a full tent if I’m using the electric. What’s another week or two of veg

Same bro, same. No more autos after this 5-pk of FastBuds Mexi Airlines that I'm holding, but as of now no longer actively seeking autoflowers. I have one that was a supposed "75 day seed to harvest" auto, in week 15 and still needs an easy 2-4 weeks

Yeah I’m borderline lazy sometimes. I never look at how long breeder says. I just try to do the best I can. Sometimes it works, Sometimes not so much. In the end my shitty weed is better than dispensary or buying it. But what I will say is when I do kill it, I freaking kill it! A lot to learn still. But definitely no more autos. I’ll be able to clone if I really like something now too.

I think the 75 day harvest depends on pot size. Throw a auto in a 1 gal pot and it’ll shorten that time frame. I believe once they fill their container, they go into the next phase.

Autos get marketed to newbies as being easier and less stress. It’s a messed up marketing tactic because as you all know; you make one mistake and you might not get it back into shape in time to get a decent harvest.

My autos are pretty frosty right now. My issue is I don’t like how uneven the flowering is going. I’m going to have to cut down half the plant and wait for the rest to finish up.

I’m just not sure if there is any real advantage. There’s shot tons of factors to take into play from lights and mediums to indoor/outdoor. Maybe my application. Wasnt getting me what I wanted. So photos it is!
