Kingkush - I get that too. I don't worry about it because it represents like 1% of the total perlite I put in, maybe less.
Out of curiosity, what makes perlite different to the worms than the other fine particles in the soil or from green sand?
For those of us that get our garden supplies shipped (or have to carry them on the subway!), the light weight of perlite is a big advantage.

i think it represents a lot more than 1%..
that is a good ? dont know y perlite is no bueno but the rock dusts are ok. someone else can chime in. their are plenty of options that are light weight. there is that napa product that a lot of organic terrorists use. pumice is pretty light too (relatively lol)
if its working for you in your situation carry on. all my potting mixes have it. im just looking to replace perlite going fwd for the reasons i mentioned earlier

lol carrying bags of perlite on the subway...funny shit! definitely easier than hauling pumice or lava rock...that shit is heavy!
when I used to use roots 707, the perlite would always float to the top by the end of the cycle....sincerely, i'm not sure how you water, but unless you are watering extremely slowly you must have some floating pumice....I am pretty lazy/violent when I water, so I often get little pools of water on the surface that slowly seep through. when the water pools, the perlite floats, and then gets deposited on the surface as the water seeps in. this is how you end up with pots that look like kushkings

Well it depends how much you put in, of course. I mix 20% perlite (by volume). If you poured it on top, it would be an inch or more of perlite. So a layer on the surface is not much. I will look at other options next time I make a batch of soil though.

And I don't think I can't have worms living in the 3gals, just never really thought about it honesty.
I don't think they'll survive my tea regiment anyways hahah!
But I think that's it bro...I WATER EXTREMELY SLOW...Takes me 45 minutes to an hour to water 4 plants in #3 smarties!
I pour and rotate and inspect and what not kind of simultaneously!
I usually water until I get the slightest bit of runoff, take not of that amount and stick with it till further noticed...
Then like 45 minutes later I give them another splash and then I'm done with em.
Like I water EXTRA slow!
But what would you suggest other perlite boss?!

Only reason it should be no bueno or less as good is because it has no CEC.
I find it would be without a doubt advantageous to have something in its place with some CEC.
Gonna start looking into things to see where to go!
And I've never imagined that issue with the perlite bro
You probably have to dump water on it and keep it moving right?!
But for the reasons you stated earlier, I'm interested in replacing it too! Just sounded like you'd already done so for you own reason!
