Who's battling root aphids?!

Only in veg or mother plants I used Bayer Fruit Citrus Vegetable at 5mL/1 teaspoon per quart. Havent seen any RAs since I used it on the mothers. I picked up a bottle of Spectracide Triazicide too at the same time they are both available at Home Depot locally. I havent used the Triazicide yet but I plan to even though I havent seen any since using the Bayer Fruit Citrus Vegetable. The Bayer is a systemic Imidacloprid and the Triazicide I believe is a contact pesticide and will kill anything that isnt feeding off the plant and dieing due to the systemic.

Bayer Fruit Citrus Vegetable.................$15
Spectracide Triazicide.........................$10
Killing every motherf*cking root aphid....PRICELESS

I was fighting them tried DE, sprays, letting the soil dry out between waterings and nothing worked. The problem took care of itself, no more flies.

The bayer tree and shrub +mighty wash worked for me. I.thought I beat them a milloon times with various stuff, always came back like clockwork. You have to use something serious or start over most times.

Don't use Bayer as a preventative. It is a knock-out, harsh, chemical. In fact it is so harsh that I tried it a few months ago and it killed half the plants and along with most of the root aphids. But the problem got worse - I thought I got them all and ended up with Bayer tolerant root aphids.

Azamax is a better broad spectrum preventative, but I wouldn't use it in flower; neem, peppermint, and clove oils; crab meal; if in soil - neem meal and beneficial nematodes.

And my favorite new knockout for bug killer BOTANIGARD. It's expensive, but it is damn effective on stuff at the ground level and below, you can use it up to the day of harvest, plus every once in a while you get to see pics of the fungi literally devour the bug and growing from the inside out!

i got thgem about a year ago and ended up using evergreen after trying several other aproaches. just added it to the nutes and havnt seen them since. i still use it @ every 30 days to make shure they cant come back. its pretty expensive but several hydro shops in my area sell 1 oz "samples"

I am in week 5 of flower in rockwool

I had noticed the yellowing of some leaves and what not and then finally saw... "them". Root aphids I am pretty sure so I have mixed up 1.5ml Avid per gallon of water and poured it over each cube of rockwool on Tuesday. I thought I would get some liquid pyrethrum and do the same over the rockwool Thursday and alternate between those two for a week or so and see what happens. I have had them before in another space many years ago and remember the Avid doing the job but the guys at the hydro store said pyrethrum so I will alternate. Waiting for the lights to come on to really take a good look...

So I've got root aphids now. Fuck! I sprayed my entire veg and mums w/orthene yesterday. I changed my rez and added gognats also. I have some abamectin I'm gonna hit em w/ in a day or two I bought this more for spidermites but it says it is good for aphids too. I am looking for something less toxic to use in flower though. I've got some spinosad but I don't think it works for aphids. I was thinking about getting some liquid pyrethrum and possibly some botanigard for flower and maybe getting some merit to add into the rotation for veg. I seriously do not want these fuckers building any resistance.

Anyone use the botanigard w/success? The liquid pyrethrum? I heard you could add these directly to your rez. Anyone try that?

Any advice appreciated.

It hasn't been my experience that Aphids build an immunity to Bayer Tree and Shrub.
I guess it could be the way it's applied possibly, and just a recurrence of the same root aphids.

That shit is LIQUID DEATH to Root Aphids.
You do however have to apply it correctly.
You have to pour the solution all over the root crown and make sure you get every part of the roots and system.
I've passed this onto MANY friends growing with Root Aphids, and EVERY ONE of them entirely rid themselves of Root Aphids.
NO ONE I know has had any resistent aphids, or any recurrences using this stuff.
It can set your plants back a few days, but the shit works great.

24 hours is the MAX you leave it in the system.
Afterward drain your system (If Hydro).
Clean your system the best you can, it will be filled with sludgy dead aphids.
Refill your res with water, and flush the hell out of it.
Drain, and refill with nutrient solution at 3/4 strength.
Repeat about 4 days later at half strength.
Root Aphids GONE.

My .02

Peace.

well I ordered some of the imid concentrate to add into rotation for veg. I also ordered some of the liquid pyrethrin and some more gognats to help control in flower. I'ma pick up some rosemary concentrate at the store tomorrow also clove oil to add into my flower rez. I was gonna order some of the sns 203 for flower but it is only clove oil and rosemary oil by the looks of it.

I was reading on another site about using neem as a soil drench. Anyone ever try it in hydro? I already have a quart of neem.

Bayer tree and shrub is pretty gnarly stuff and highly systemic. Suggested to be used in vegg only and only needs to be done once. The directions tell you that and not to be used on any fruit bearing trees within in 12 months of consumption. It works ! Use at your own caution and be kind to fellow smokers and don't use in flower.

I believe the active ingredient in the tree and shrub is imidacloprid. I ordered some of the concentrate. I only plan on using it in veg.

Note---this is not something I use regularly as a preventative. It was a one time thing (well three applications), on one batch of plants/soil. All soil was tossed after the grow and NEMATODES and other organic preventatives were applied to new soil.

---success! haven't seen a bug since I had posted that . 6 months

Also like peeps said, no use in flower. I did find a study that showed that imid residual was most likely to be found in the pollen of whatever flower it was they studied.

And I think it was like 7 -15 parts per BILLION. For humans oral ingestion was most harmful. So unless you are eating your male pollen(lol), I'd say give it a whirl.

THese guys eat neem for breakfast. Rosemary for lunch and the sns 203 well.. that will do for dinner.

well I need something for flower. Even if it only slows em down until I can rotate in some plants treated w/the more powerful poisons from veg. I'm perpetual so within a month half my flower room will be rotated. I mixed in some neem in one of my rez. as a test in flower 3.5oz/50 gallons also some gognats @15oz/50/gallons. We'll see.

Botanigard noones tried it in hydro?

as of this date root aphids are unbeatable

i am a grower running over 250,000 watts we have spent over 3500$ on pesticides and nothing will work

neem-pyth-rosmary-clove-tobacco have very little effect on them pyth can sometimes knock a colony back enough to allow you to squeek through flower but most of the time the plant will go belly up by week 5

imid(baer tree and shrub.....merit 75) this stuff always "seems" to work the first time you use it then a few months later there back with a vengence and now there imid resistant.....imid is only 75% effective....do your homework your breeding resistant colonys in under 6 months

orthaline smells like dogshit a little more effective then merit but again colonies are resistant within 6 months

spectracide dosent have too much of an effect on them

botanicguard had very little effect on the bugs.....beat the shit out of the plants

Met52 man i was excited about this one its a fungus that is targeted to root aphids it does keep the colony at bay if you have an infestation you can pull off decent harvests in my private grows this stuff is used from the start as a phrophlatic it will not eradicate a established colony but again keeps them in check this is the only pesticide we are currently running

media plays a big part

they
love rockwool/coco/dwc

hydroton and soil not so much

we went from hitting 2 1/2+ pound per light to under a pound per light

we got them from a dirty clone........no strain is worth the risk of getting them you wont notice them till its too late

when you see a flyer its too late there only sent out when the host plant can no longer support the colony

your only effective solution is to trash all the plants sell your ALL of your equipment move the grow location and start from seed

also would like to say if your dumb and dont want to or cant tear down find root aphid resistant strains....all of our blueberry crosses shrug them off

unfortanlly the kushs and diesels just fall apart
