who knows about phone chargers powering PC fans?

i read on here and have been researching
i want to know if it works well. i know you have to get a higher voltage, and ive got a 12v, 5v, and an 8v i think.
connect black to black and white to white and tape em up. sounds about right?

You have to make sure that you arent overloading the amps on it either.

Every pc fan has an amps used on it somewhere.

If your 12v Charger is rated at 1amp for example and your pc fans are rated at 0.25amps then you could run 4 on the 12v charger.

I generally when using PC fans use a single 12v transformer to power each fan just to be on the safe side.

im not very electric savvy, ive been reading more about it and i think i just want to either find a power supply with 4 molex fan connectors (if they make those), or buy one. that seems pretty safe since its built to be in a computer..

an electrical dumbthumb as well...but I do have plans on how to convert a PC power supply for use for things such as this.

I have one that I use to power a DC battery charger, and it works quite well, is very simple, and super cheap. Doesnt even require use of a soldering gun. All it requires is a resistor in the 5V lead, to activate and regulate the 12V output.

You can PM me if interested, I'll run you thru it.

i was taught at one time what ac and dc is. ac is in dc is out or something i dont remember i was too stoned at the time haha

what do you guys think about my power supply choice? i have the links in a couple previous posts. im gonna try to find one off craigslist tho, not so pricy there

go to goodwill or thrift store and get a 12 volt adaptor i get them for dollar
but make sure u get a dc power supply
or rig up a computer power supply

I watched a You tube video on coverting ac to dc. Used a Heavy Phone wire to use to splice it with. The dc plug I used had three wires comming out of it. One being ground I assume. I just kept swiching wires untill the fan turned. The odd one out is ground. seeing as the frig is grounded and the box is grounded, I didnt ground the spliced leads, if that makes since. Not a pro or anything... Just knows what werks. I do need to do a volt or amp check. that phone wire was a tick smaller than the fan wires. Gotta say watch a few Youtube videos and you can do anything..

its not rocket science man u got a red and a black on fan any other wires disregard and your adapter will have 2 wires hook those 2 to red and black on fan if it doesnt come on reverse wires and it will spin

OKGEAR PA-AD-UL-12V5A AC to 12V 4-Pin Molex DC Power Supply - This is what you need, there are also connections that you can get at a computer parts store allowing you to link together more than 1 fan on the same 4pin molex, they market to the home theater buffs with those nice solid wood cabinets, look great but its an awesome way to over heat your electronics, so they made that adaptor to hook computer fans to the back of those things to keep the air moving (without the use of a powersupply most commonly found in your desktop computer - also your first link), I know this is a lot of extra information but its well... after 420am and i still cant sleep =D haha

Also you don't want to use a phone charger because of the fact if the ampres and stuff dont match up you will blow either the fan or the charger. Then you're just out money.

What you're looking for is the thing in the 2nd pic i posted, if you buy computer fans in the store they come with them nowadays, but if you're using spare ones try a computer electronics store or something, we have Frys where I'm from originally.

man just get a damn charger cut the end of the cord off, cut the pc fan wire, and twist together red to red then black to black. fuck amps volts and the bullshit. its tiny ass fan its not going to hurt anything people. SMH
