Who know what OG stands for?

I can't believe how may people actually buy the "Ocean Grown" story. That story was most likely made up by well meaning medical activists who are trying to legitimize cannabis and want to seperate that strain name from the criminal black market, just like they renamed "Green Crack" to "Cush." I'm sorry, but OG stands for Original Gangsta, and "Kush" is/was just a generic cali term for kill bud, just like "Krypy" in Florida and "Skunk" in the UK. I doubt there is even any "Old-world Paki Kush" in it, and even if there was, why would you carry the name from something that comprises 25% or less of it's genetics? That story is too much of a stretch. If you believe that, I've got some ocean front property in Arizona.... I'm sure there is some hippy or redneck/cowboy in norcal who (hates rap music and) is just laughing his ass off every time he sees that story copy and pasted on a canna board, like it's gospel! Ha!

Original Gangster, come on. The breeder that made Og Kush would not name a classy stain after any type of gangster bullshit.
If you had a real super triple OG paying you tip top dollar, buying you out of all your gear, or possibly even funding your horticultural endeavors, you'd let them name (or rename) your strain whatever the hell they wanted!

talk to snoop. d O double G. he'd probly have more knowledge on strain names and lineages than anyone on here, created names and pumped so many strains by now..... not like anyone has some real og kush anymore any dam way. the "master" breeders just sit on their (various) original OG stock, hybridizing to protect the genetics.

Cause Snopp Dogg grows his own shit... I really dont think Snoop knows any more about the history and lineage of cannabis than any other rapper. They can say anything they want in their songs and interviews and sure OG might mean Original Gangsta to some people but that doesn't mean its the right answer. I do agree somewhat with your second point about how many people have never tried the real OG kush. so many dealers and even growers will rename the strain they are growing and throw OG in the name just for the appeal so they can charge more but that doesnt mean cuts of the original arnt available just hard to trust people when they claim their bud is a specific strain. I get my cuts from dispensaries like Harborside but even then you cant be 100% sure of what your getting just going on faith really.

I heard it came from a grower from overgrow.com which is where the name OG came from I can't remember where I heard it but it sounds more likely than ocean grown

If something has the name "OG" and it smells like SFV then chances are its a OG strain.

Believe what you want. But if I ever hear a grower call it original gangster kush I laff and leave. If they don't know the true genetics and name they arnt worth my time and surely only believe what they see online or from the getto. So no real knowledge of growing.

Back in the day, there was a major Overgrow personality called BushyOlderGrower. He went on to sell seeds of his strains under the BOG name/trademark. Pretty sure though that his endeavor was different from the OG story. cn

It stands for ocean grown. Because when the backbone of the Og line which is Chewdog '91 was grown out in Colorado it went two ways. When it went East (New York)and got mixed with grapefruit it created the Diesel Line. When it made its way to the west coast San Fernando valley then it became the Og line. It is called ocean grown because it was done in hydro first. Other names that came out was origianl gangster which came from LA.

Kush is a reference to the landrace kush Mountain region in the himalayas. To the reason why they attached kush to ocean grown is a mystery. When someone refers to kush lines to me I always ask are you referrring to Ocean Grown or landrace kush. So basically og kush isnt a real kush.

The Origins of OG are Ocean Grown as originally it was a skunk plant in the humbolt triangle region and therefor grown by the ocean.
Debate it, argue it.. but that strain was around long before Tupac and Cypress Hill.

Im just talking about the "OG" name, as per the thread. I mean do you know snoop (or snoop lion marley now)? Cuz I don't. Don't even listen to his music anymore. Don't know if he grows, doesnt grow, no idea. He certainly has more access to upper shelf than most of us.

jesus really? i always thought tupac invented cannabis. and cypress hill created skunk! INSANE IN THE MEMBRANE!

The major element in actual OG Kush (and Sour Diesel) has always been CHEMDAWG, not some skunk. Look it up. OG kush - Chemdawg x Paki Kush. Its not some old skunk like cheese or something.
