I'm in college, don't worry. If you have a roommate it makes things a lot easier and you'll make a lot of friends. (If you get along) I actually live off campus with my g/f, so I'm kinda out of the loop, but my friend dorms and i make friends through him and classes. Also, if you smoke, I use a window fan and blow it out the window. NO JOINTS OR BLUNTS! they put off too much continuous smoke. Find a good place to hide shit when you move in, pretty obvious for a stoner though. I would try to get in touch with your roommate beforehand so it's not as awkward at first.

Good luck and you'll have lots of fun.

I was for a year and a half RIGHT after highschool. Then some shit popped off and I needed to start working unfortunately. =\

I can't wait to go back next year because I never smoked pot in highschool and college. I can't wait to be baked in class.

Just finished my first year, and I can second the fan idea. Without one, it was difficult to notice the hotbox when we were high..
And another way to avoid having smoke in between hits, is to only pack single hits when seshing with a group. It just helps keep the smoke down.

College is so fun, and you meet awesome people! Good luck!

yeah i originally wanted to do what youre doing. get an apartment with the gf. she goes to a near by college. but we couldnt do it. and this year my college says i have to stay in a dorm.

yeah i hope i do. i dont do good with first impressions and stuff though. thats what is making me nervous. im what people call "socially awkward" lol but i guess im still excited. ill be living in one of the best cities in the world.

and the dorms are cool too. its not really a dorm but an actual apartment in a high rise. me and my roommate will share a one bedroom place. it has a full kitchen and bathroom. so you dont have one of those big nasty shared ones.

downside is no one is allowed to spend the night... im bummed about that.

I personally have social anxiety, don't like people in general, and am a shitty roommate as I don't like to talk and can't stand having people around me. I also have a wife AND roommate, went to college and was in a fraternity. (If you figure out how all of the above are true let me know, because I don't know how I did it.)

Most people in college will gladly let you have your privacy until Friday night (Thursday if it's a suitcase campus.) Stick your nose in your studies and most people will just leave you alone thinking you're a dedicated student. While there are still 'clicks' in college the atmosphere is different and people are accepted more because they are different. There are still 'nerds' and 'geeks' but they're called that because of a lack of social skills not because of an interest or excessive study habits. So if you keep your head in your books most people will just leave you alone without judgment.

Other good ideas.

First and foremost make sure that you DO NOT go to school only to party. When I started college in 1994 I chose to go straight (no more weed, alcohol, intoxicants of any kind) and it turned out I made the wise choice. Everyone who was there only to party was gone after 1 or 2 semesters and had racked up anywhere from $10K to $20K in debt in the process.

Second, do NOT sign up for 8 am classes For a freshman I wouldn't advise any earlier than 10 am, and I'd go for 11am if possible. It puts you in class later in the day which kind of sucks, but you're less likely to bail on class if you don't have to drag your ass out of bed at 7 am. Never carry more than 18 credit hours per semester, 15 max if you intend to work while in school.

Third, don't declare a major during your freshman year. Get the 'bs' courses out of the way first. Math, English, History, Science, etc ... If you jump right into the fun classes you find yourself at the end of your college career with nothing but BS left to take and are bored stupid. Take time and figure out what you want. I spent 7 years choosing a major before I finally graduated. I have over 170 credit hours, which if organized at all could cover what might have been required for a masters degree. If I hadn't jumped on the first thing that sounded good and taken those courses straight off I could have figured out what I wanted sooner and graduated in a reasonable time.

Fourth, marijuana..... how do I say this without inflaming people. It's a bad idea to have at school. Academia is an interesting place, there are many people there just to party (they don't last,) many more there because they don't know what else to do (that was me,) and a few who are there to get a serious hardcore education (they typically graduate in 3 years and have 2 degrees in that three years.) With those different types of people you run a good chance into running into someone who will narc. Or even worse you run into someone like me who was trying damned hard to overcome multiple addictions and literally CAN'T be around anything for their own peace of mind. If you must do it, do so with close knit group of friends ONLY, and never until you really know the person well. That said, it's college, they could flip instantly if they get pissy. If you must smoke in the dorms I recommend a pipe (as said above no joints or blunts) and use a biff tube. Does anyone use that term anymore? A biff tube for us was an empty paper towel roll with two or three dryer sheets at the end to mask the smell. Resident Advisors (Dorm 'police') will smell and know MJ from a mile away and it's their job to turn you in.

Sixth, go to ALL your classes and do all your homework. That is the bare minimum to pass. To get A's you need to spend 2 hours per every hour in class studying the material. There are some people who are gifted and can do school with no effort, for most of us we have to work our asses off to get our degrees. I adopted the attend class and do all homework in year 2, my GPA went from a 1.5 (academic probation) to a 2.4 (sort of passing) just by attending all my classes and doing my homework. My 5th year I went hard core and spent every waking moment out of class studying and practicing (music degree) and I achieved Deans List my last three years of school graduating with a 3.5 GPA.

Seventh through tenth, CONDOMS!!!!! I know 5 people who got Herpes, 3 people who got incurable Gonorrhea, and 1 unfortunate person who contracted HIV by screwing around without rubbers in college. I myself was exposed to but didn't catch Chlamydia. In college ALL diseases are 'social' diseases. Everyone ends up sick at the same time and STD spread like wildfire since schools are such closed societies.

Eleventh, not to be insulting, but I certainly hope your academic writing is considerably better than how you wrote your above post. Grammar is vital in college writings and you can completely flunk a course because of improper grammar on your papers. I know my grammar and spelling aren't perfect but I am also not writing academically here. My important work documents get proof-read no less than 5 times before I turn them into the boss; Usually by at least 2 other people. I did my papers in school the same way.

Twelfth, have a good time but not too good of a time. You're free (so you think) to do as you want, when you want. I fell prey to doing what I wanted. Thankfully my 'hobby' during my freshman year ended up paying for my freshman year since I lost my scholarship due to grades. I was at the pool hall 90% of the time gambling. I had some nice toys due to it, but also had to pay for the rest of my college career because of my piss poor grades that year.

Thirteenth, think this post is long? Wait until you're faced with a 150 page paper and you realize that you put it off until the night before. Don't panic and just buckle down and get it done fast. While piss poor work doesn't get you great grades, once in a while it's a good substitute for 'oh fuck I forgot.' DO NOT CHEAT, THEY WILL CATCH YOU!

Good luck and peace,

ROFLMAO. I went to two universities and worked the Walt Disney World College program for a semester. They all had that rule. Guess which rule was overlooked the most by everyone?

Talk to your roommate to figure out how to make it work so you can both get laid. My roommate and I had it pretty well figured out and didn't get in each others way except for a few times. Trust me, that rule will be overlooked as long as you keep the peace. Get freaky and have your roommate unknowingly walk in (or wake up) to your bare ass going up and down too often and he'll likely turn you in. Warn him and POLITELY ask him to give you some space so you can get busy and he likely will (as long as you return the favor.)

We had the virgin vault aka all girls dorm. I spent MANY nights crashed out in there throughout my college career. No men were allowed in there after 8 pm ... LAF!

hey rt76. youre posts are long, but always hepful. im just going to type my thoughts as i read through this so i dont forget anything.

I personally have social anxiety, don't like people in general, and am a shitty roommate as I don't like to talk and can't stand having people around me.yeah i know what you mean, man. in crowds and even just around a couple people i dont know i get extremely nervous. i do my best to keep it in but it shows sometimes. i noticed lately whenever im in social situations im either tapping or bitting my lip. I also have a wife AND roommate, went to college and was in a fraternity. (If you figure out how all of the above are true let me know, because I don't know how I did it.)

Most people in college will gladly let you have your privacy until Friday night (Thursday if it's a suitcase campus.) whats a suitcase campus?Stick your nose in your studies and most people will just leave you alone thinking you're a dedicated student. While there are still 'clicks' in college the atmosphere is different and people are accepted more because they are different. There are still 'nerds' and 'geeks' but they're called that because of a lack of social skills i know how to act in public i just get nervous about it... lol im not like those weird dng kids...not because of an interest or excessive study habits.

Everyone who was there only to party was gone after 1 or 2 semesters and had racked up anywhere from $10K to $20K in debt in the process.i like to party but ive calmed down a bit due to all my friends circle breaking up. and being mostly unemployed and school less for the past 1.5 years it made me definately make something of myself ya know. i just felt like a complete waste of space peice of shit. even my gfs friends tried to get her to break up with me cuz "i was going nowhere with my life" so i definately wont waste this opportunity. and im using at it to make my mom proud too. these past 5 or so years ive been kinda rough on her and i just wanna make her happy now.

Never carry more than 18 credit hours per semester, 15 max if you intend to work while in school. this helps alot cuz im going to pick my classes next week i think? but the bad part is im starting in august which is early for the fall semester for that school and instead of 11 weeks its 5.5 weeks. so its doubled. and they said ill basically be going to school from 9-5 mon- friday. at around 16 credit hours. but for a normal quarter ill only be going twice a week for maybe 11-4 or something like that.

Third, don't declare a major during your freshman year. Get the 'bs' courses out of the way first. Math, English, History, Science, etc ... If you jump right into the fun classes you find yourself at the end of your college career with nothing but BS left to take and are bored stupid. Take time and figure out what you want. If I hadn't jumped on the first thing that sounded good and taken those courses straight off I could have figured out what I wanted sooner and graduated in a reasonable time. yeah this past year and a half gave me alot of time to think and decide... i have chosen culinary arts. haha should be good for the munchies ill be able to make. (thats not why im doing it though i just love to cook)

Fourth, marijuana..... how do I say this without inflaming people. It's a bad idea to have at school. Academia is an interesting place, there are many people there just to party (they don't last,) many more there because they don't know what else to do (that was me,) and a few who are there to get a serious hardcore education (they typically graduate in 3 years and have 2 degrees in that three years.) If you must do it, do so with close knit group of friends ONLY, and never until you really know the person well. yeah thats the way i like to smoke anyway. i only really enjoy being high alone or with my gf. not even with my best friend around and ive known him for over half my life. That said, it's college, they could flip instantly if they get pissy. If you must smoke in the dorms I recommend a pipe (as said above no joints or blunts) and use a biff tube. There are some people who are gifted and can do school with no effort,i hate to sound cocky but i think im like this. i spent 3 out of the 4 years in high school watsed off my ass puking everynight from drinking. the longest id go without getting drunk would maybe be 2 days tops. and i had a 3.9 gpa out of 5 and a 24 on my act. i was hung over for that too lol and i took all the accelerated classes and never received a grade lower than a c. and i never studied or read the books for english. for most of us we have to work our asses off to get our degrees. I adopted the attend class and do all homework in year 2, my GPA went from a 1.5 (academic probation) to a 2.4 (sort of passing) just by attending all my classes and doing my homework. My 5th year I went hard core and spent every waking moment out of class studying and practicing (music degree) and I achieved Deans List my last three years of school graduating with a 3.5 GPA.
damn dude congrats. i was thinking about going into music. but i lack the skill.
I did my papers in school the same way. yeah on here i just type in thoughts. i type exactly what im saying. and for some reason i put periods in the middle of sentences cuz my thought paused in the middle and started again. i dunno its weird. but thats how on type on here. ....its only on riu i do this though. weird. but no i can type good.

well i would hold off on it when i needed to study.
what i did do though, and it worked for me like a charm:
when i would finish studying the night before an exam i would smoke up.
why? because if i didnt i would not be able to sleep because of
all the anxiety and that would fuck me up the next day. i'm not saying
that the weed helped me retain information, but rather helped prevent
sleep deprivation and thus i showed up rested and prepared.

fuck it wont let me give you rep rt76. ill get ya when i can. scouts honor.
No worries man. Sorry I'm so verbose but I'm strongly considering going back to school and getting my masters. When I dropped all the drugs I was doing in high school I inadvertently replaced it with an addiction to learning. Ever since I got my degree I've been dying to go back to school and learn something new. I'm hoping in the next two years I'll be a full time student again.

So school is something I've been doing a lot of thinking about lately.
