TMV / SHMV / CMV / WMV, etc, etc. In Botany / science, there is no defining "Mosaic Virus", even though there should be because the pathogens metabolic markup is the same no matter what species of plant seed and then through germination, plant, it makes as its host! What I mean... in Botany you have over 600 classified mosaic viruses, "plant type / name, mosaic virus", examples... Cucumber Mosaic Virus, Watermelon Mosaic Virus, Tobacco Mosaic Virus, which to me is plain stupid because the pathogen is the same no matter what plant it affects! In Botany they should have just classified a defining name, like "Mosaic Virus", then said the "Mosaic Virus" can attack over 600 species of fruiting and flowering plants, instead of having well over 600 "plant type / name, mosaic virus" classifications to date! Anyway, to avoid getting the Mosaic Virus, wash your hands before handing your seeds, and before germinating your seeds dunk them in water that is at least 112F for 15 to 30 seconds. The Mosaic Virus is a pathogen that can live on the surface of a seed for up to 3 months, then when the seed germinates, it drills its self into the tap root of the plant and makes the plant its host. And as an important side note, it can not be passed through breeding.
