White stuff floating

This isn't really a plant problem or at least not yet but what is this white stuff floating in my rez? I'm doing drain to waste Dyna gro nutes and I add drip clean and h202. I have 25 gallons left in the rez. Can I use it or do I need to drain it? Also how do I keep it from forming?

I don't know what it is, if it were me I'd dump it. It's cheaper and easier to dump the rez than chance killing the plants.

Do you add any bacteria? I've had similar floaties from running Hydroguard and lots of bubbles and I presumed it was the bacillus multiplying. No noticeable negative effects.

Nope. Just nutes and drip clean and h202.

Do they hurt your plants? I would think not since they're on top and the pump pulls from the bottom. Idk
I saw no noticeable negative effects, and in fact I had explosive root growth at the same time, although I can't say causally. This is why I presumed it was the Hydroguard.

All this tells you is it is aerobic. H2O2 could be encouraging it also. Could be algae.

You gotta figure out if you have a pathogen / pythium / root rot, or if this is nothing to worry about except an extra cleaning job.

Do you notice any visible problems in the plants, and are you able to view your roots for symptoms?

Lots of reading on brown slime, not all of it devastating, but if I were you i'd be changing the res/cleaning lines anyways.

I'm not a hydro grower, but if that stuff is in your system just changing the Rez won't make it go away. The spores are all through the system. I've read ruwtz manuvor one all the way through and if I remember correctly he had white floaties, but they wasn't the biggest problem, maybe you should check out what the discussion on his thread was all about, it's been like 2/3 months since I read it and I just don't recall, but it was a good read.

I've had white floaties, i've had brown snot. Both were when I was attempting to run a sterile res but with little success; I may have had root rot problems to begin with and in an E&F setup this is easy to spread and poison the res. My res temps were also up at 74F and running airstones: it was a field day for them.

Since kicking out the offending plants, keeping the res 71F or under, and twice weekly beneficial tea top fed only (NOT in the res), its all been plain sailing.

I also change the res every week without exception.

I still run airstones, mostly to keep it agitated without the added heat you get from a pump.
