Which soils to use?

I have a question for those using Black Gold or FoxFarm...

In your experience, about how quickly does the plant use up nutes in the soil? When do you usually introduce supliments?

Thanks! :-)

i remeber when i first strted growing and my first grow all i had was miracle grow soil but i thought y cant i sift out the little chemical balls and i did and had no problems and then was able to add my own nutes.

I was in home dept the other day and found a electric ph soil tester. It has two prongs that you just stick in the soil. So then i walked into there soil section and tested all of there soils. I found that there miracle grow organic had a ph of 7.5-7, scotts was at seven and all the others were around six. I even teested a bag of cow shit and it was like a ph of 2. So my question is would you all be against using miracle grows new organic type soil. and is cow manuer not a good idea for adding to your soil.

im on miracle grow, i beleive 15-20-20. look for lots of nitrogen and bonemeal. keep away from acidic or manure fertilizers.

thats my opinion atleast.

or u can get a soilless mix so u dont have to worry when to put ur nutrients because ther wont be any time elapsed fertilsers

Well I just took goos simple black top soil and mixed in about a 3rd or less of miricle grow. Well see. I think start simple and add what you need good way to learn without learning the hard way

I agree with the African Violet soil, added a little vermiculite and all things are great.

For freshly germinated seeds what PKN ratio would be suggested? Or do I wait until after these little babies have sprouted from the soil?

Can u feed this soil. if so wat order should it go in (20-10-10),(30-20-10).

Yep, I have some Ocean Forest myself. I buy the matching Fox Farm Grow Big, it has all the micronutrients needed by plants and it has a NPK ratio of 6-4-4..

It's good stuff.

this is the one you're referinng to right?

Black Gold Organic Potting Soil

Hi young BUCK,

It is usually safe to get the most expensive organic soil you can find.. Ideally you want to start with a soil that has a PH of 6.5 - 7.0.

This is the main problem with miracle grow because it starts with a PH of 5.0.

There is a soil called "Black Gold" it is GOD SEND.. I don not belive it is sold at HD.

foxfarm ocean forest. it is the shit. everything is in there. just pop the bag, put in a pot, and grow. no need to worry about feeding until 2-3 weeks in. perfect for inside growers.
FFOF for inside is by far the best IMHO(and spendy---your hydro store):hump:. Been using it for years and have never needed to nute it at all in veg cycle at all! Then throw it in your veggy garden and your neighbors will be amazed at your skill(perlite might look a bit funny:?)..... Their whole system of nutes is AWESOME as well:blsmoke:---- FoxFarm Soil & Fertilizer Company

Outside PRO-MIX BX! and yes, add 1/5 perlite to compensate for all the peat. This holds moisture very well: in fact dont plant in a hole that wont drain out easily in a storm. Premier Horticulture – PRO-MIX growing mixes & Peat Moss: The ultimate growing performance

lol
I was wondering, how do you know when to start adding nutrients?
Hypothetically, I'd be using that Fox Farm Ocean Forest stuff and the nutrients I'd have would be the Fox Farm Grow Big stuff.
