Let keep it civil and no arguments. On topic and fun. Were stoners

I have gained some knowledge off my last topic and altering the question.

Either 1 550 or 2x 260 which seem to be the same just in 1 board so I'd get 4 x 260 I think...unless i dare build 1

DIY will always be less expensive vs. pre-assembled fixtures.
DIY also allows you to design the fixture to fit YOUR grow area.
I designed my original fixtures around Vero29's cobs.
They work very well but if you're limited in headroom, using strips or panels will give you better uniformity.

Well the 260s are a kit and come with 1 year warranty while the 550s are a plug and go and should have 3 year warranty.

But the 2x 260 should give you about 285w a piece and you will get better spread than the 550.
Think the 550 comes with a 480 driver so it might not pump out much more than 480w

If your buying direct from hlg don't forget 10% off with diy10 or riu10 code.

Whichever will shill you the hardest:o....wait for it.....

+1 for a diy but with some of the new HLG Diablo boards. Have you seen those? Maybe just two boards are needed 5 amps @ 56v max.

For what space? Including height.

Qb96 are almost criminally cheap now and might be last chance to pick them up.

2 x qb96 looks like same price as 1 diablo with sinking: id go for 2 x96.

We gotta be careful reccomending these 96s to people. You really might as well use low wattage cobs if you don't plan on running each 96 at least 150w. They're really great at high wattage a good 3-4' above the canopy. But other than that, cobs.

Cob w heatsink, holder, thermal pad will run you what, about 50-60 if you go for vero o similar quality. The qb96 has a bigger LES so a bit better spread, horti spectrum and seems to handle heat a bit better, 100w heat sink works up to 160w with the bigger pad structure. I think they measure up in price quality to any 50w cob setupp, especially if you figure on the possibility to use them for other bigger sized tents further down the road. Also, HLG, show a bit of love. Afaik this might be at cost clearance so i feel theress defo a value.

12 qb96 comes out as 838$ and would give sufficient spread imo. Mount them 4x3 or 6x2.
100w each as max wattage still keeps you in efficient range. Ok so theres driver cost aswell but with xlg range theyre quite cheap.

The 550 lacks spread and this build would compensate for that.

To be honest, those QB96s in my eyes, are literally like LED versions of HID lights. They can kick some major ass when blowing out high wattage like I said. 120-300watts. Up nice n' high just like an HPS would be used.

I think the sweet spot is closer to around 120w for a OB96, and they can cover a 2'x2' space pretty evenly at 2-feet above the canopy. When you use multiple 96's together, they overlap really nicely. Also imo a 96 is way better than a cob in many ways, but especially with the added red chips in addition to the whites.

Yeah i can see how you see this, they were designed to be able to be brought up all the way to 11, but just like any led they will run better on soft. And with new price you can do this, just like with any cob.

Id even go as low as 80w on these, 6 per 4x4. With RIU10 discount code and xlg240 drivers you get in around 1w/$ total and you still have the option of covering more space by just buying some more drivers.

How many cx2540 on heatsink do you get for 62$, including thermal management and holder and lens? And what is HLG aftersales and redsup worth to you? Of course there are options and ways to make it work but none of those options includes the added value of having an extra 100% in possible wattage (qb96 heatsink goes up to 160w with no extra airmovement).

@AirWalker am in a tent 2.4x1.2x2m howcome tent vs room same size is an option to select between?
So u saying the cob chips are not as good as the qb chips now?
And when you say the qb is like a HID is that a good or bad comment learning how hid are not as colour spectrum wide etc ? Or do you mean it will produce as good as a hps setup

I thought the cob chips did better than qbs .
Is the qb reference to the samsung chips I guess as there the chips used in the qbs ?

Sorry for my blindness when I left this forum years ago the 3590s and veros was the best with like 2 companys making proper leds now there is so many leds from companys and chips it's so damn confusing lol and u guys defo science tech heads it's amazing and confusing lol. Love it

The qb96 is not your typical qb, its almost like a super cob:

It was their first go at supplementing red direcctly in their boards. Its made to handle a lot of wattage but like all leds it will run better on low
