I have that same fan, it is kinda loud. Ok its pretty loud. I had to put a bunch of old towels around it to make it quieter. But it does a great job moving the air!

Do you suppose the Can-Fan brand is quieter than what you have?

Does anyone have experience with the brand name can-fan?

I just ordered one myself. I also have a Vortex inline fan, but it's pretty loud. Order it
from these guys, and you could get free shipping. Plus they have awesome customer service
and free returns.
Yeah, I think your right.. that might be the fan to use. Cheaper than most, it has a high CFM rating, and I would assume the plastic helps a little with turbine noise.

You got it. ;-)
And it's also more energy efficient. Just remember to buy a fan controller so you can control the speed.
You won't need to run it on full power all the time This is what I use. I run it on half speed. , which will make it even quieter.

This will be for venting two 600W HPS bulbs and one 1000W MH bulb (all in cooltubes). My main concern is noise. Doesn't have to be "silent," but also can't sound like a jet engine, you know?

How's this one? http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=52583

Can I get anything quieter for around that price range?

Thanks!

im probably going to get this same fan and the filter as well. You can get them packed together for $200. i never thought about the noise or weather you should run it full power so thanks to those who mentioned that.

to the poster who runs his fan half speed, are you pulling through a scrubber?

also, to anyone, do you guys think i could keep the fan in the attic to help with sound or would it get to hot? It gets up to 100 in the summer here.

When I stopped by my local grow shop, i was looking at the Can-Fan and filters. I was very impressed by the quality of carbon filters. There was some serious weight to them. They explained to me how it was the CFM of your can, and the size (Surface area) of your filter was important because it was all about the amount of time the order sits in the carbon, before it is pulled into the exhaust. Makes sense to me..

Have you thought of the stanley blower mod to cool your lights? The fan is really quiet Cost $45 and a little work to make it a great fan. you could get 2 use one on the 1k and one for the 2 600 I use mine to run cooltubes on my MH and Hps bulbs. My temps dropped from 95-79 cheap and works well. Check it out in my sig.

Hmmm choices, choices. I can't decide between two stanleys or the 6" windtunnel. Two stanley blowers would cost less and move a bit more air, but I trust the windtunnel more and it would b an easier install...
