Which computer operating system(s) do you use?

Just a question to satisfy my curiosity about your choice and why you made it.

All the operating systems above have their strengths and weaknesses. I know what works best for me @ home and what I have to use at work and just wondering about others choices/needs.

I have a DOS puter, a Win98 puter, a couple WinXp puters, a couple Zorin puters

I like to set em up to do things I need done. one is a jukebox, one is a recording studio, one lets me watch free tv, one is set up for MAME

Windows for gaming and hardware compatability
Ubuntu 12/14 for browsing/social/downloads and battery life
Dont like apple anymore.

Windows 7 on laptop and desktop... makes life easy most of the time. Windows XP + Debian dual boot on old Thinkpad X61s used mainly for car diagnostics (Toyota, Mercedes and Jaguar leads I have still need XP).

VMware ESXi on server with various bits running on top. Mainly used as a media server so I could get away with just running windows directly but where's the fun in that?

Dont be scared of 10. Its what windows 8 was SUPPOSE to be. Its actually really nice. A lot like windows 7. Give it a go mang.

Imo, it is an awsome OS and smokes windows 7/8/8.1 in terms of stability and compatibility however, them "forced" updates make me feel out of control and paranoid lol.

still stretching out my windows 7 until i can no longer and have to get 10.

be scared. if youre someone who actually uses your computer wait until the last possible minute to upgrade to 10.

i still have a thinkpad that came with ME now running XP specifically for tuning my car, didnt think anyone else kept the same thing around. Resolution so fucked up it looks like legos though lol

Haha, mine isn't too bad, only 9 years old. Bought it about a year ago off ebay, they're almost worthless these days.

There's not much legacy software which hasn't been replaced with a post XP version but proper car diagnostics seems to be full of it.

I've got t_a_i_l_s (I respect that you misspelled it for a reason ) on a Yumi bootable USB w/ other bootable OS', install ISOs, and scanning devices/tools . It will turn just about any USB bootable machine into a transparent host w/ some config.

A little bit of overkill when not wanting to leave a browser trail @ the in-laws, though.

If you like experimenting and like having a known clean OS/virus/malware/spyware cleaner for almost any machine, check out Yumi.

A sampling of things it's useful for:
win XP/7 install Iso's
CentOS/Debian/Mint/Ubuntu install ISO's and desktops
Avast/Kapersky/AVG/Clam(win) AV (standalone scanners and WinPE7)
MalwareBytes Mal/spyware (WinPE7)
RIP Linux
Clonezilla
Partimage
etc.

Microsoft has agreed to pay a Californian woman $10,000 (£7,500) after an automatic Windows 10 update left her computer unusable.

Teri Goldstein said her Windows 7 computer had automatically tried to update itself to Windows 10 without her permission.

She said the update had made her machine unstable, leaving her unable to use it to run her business.

Microsoft said it had dropped its appeal to save on legal costs.

Microsoft has been aggressively pushing the latest version of its widely used operating system,

which is currently available as a free download for computers running Windows 7 and 8.

However, many people have chosen not to upgrade, because they are running old hardware, have software that does not run on Windows 10,

are concerned over the software's tracking features, or simply do not want it.

In February, the company bundled Windows 10 in with its security updates and made it a "recommended update",

which meant it was automatically downloaded and installed unless blocked by the user.

Some people accused the company of trying to "trick" customers into installing the update.

The Seattle Times reported that Ms Goldstein's computer had "slowed to a crawl" after the update,

and Microsoft customer support had not fixed the problem.

"I had never heard of Windows 10. Nobody ever asked me if I wanted to update," she told the newspaper.
