ok .... what spectrum CFLs should I use I am going to try a pure CFL grow on 3 female chronic plants from clone to bud what CFL's should I use all the way threw my grow? I need to know what to ask for in the shop tomorrow, its just an experiment for a little personal lol I am hoping to only use about 5 maybe 6 bulbs and I am thinking only 2 plants for experimental and personal purposes only :blsmoke:

To start you will need at least 2 lights per plant, and 5 once it's gotten some size to it. When you flower you will need more. Start with the daylight 6500K bulbs for your seedling and veg stages. For flowering you will need to get warmwhite 2700K. Look for the highest wattage possible...most standard in stores sell 42W bulbs...get those. In my cfl experiment i used 7 bulbs for 1 plant, and i was fairly impressed at the growth. I did top the plant and i also tied down the side branches for more bud site devolopment.

2700k CFLs around here are literally 50 cents each for 27w ones, but I had to search long and hard to get good deals on 6500k CFLs.

Wicked so a few daylight CFL's as high wattage as I can per plant then threw flowering add some warm white CFL's as high wattage as I can?

correct me if I'm wrong! wanna do some research before the box is complete! I am thinking of starting my grow the week commencing the 21st!

if you can only use 5 to 6 bulbs buy 5 6500k and 4 2700k bulbs at the highest watts you can get. when vegging use all 5 of the 6500k and maybe 1 2700k, when flowering use 2 6500k and 4 2700k. good luck on the grow

I dont understand why people recomend using 10-20 bulbs on one plant there are several post using far less bulbs and having decent results, you want to use 5-6 bulbs build a rubbermaid growtub line it with reflective material, there is a post in the diy section 6 42w cfls in this desgn, pulled 4 oz dry...... its all about keeping the light close and contained, with 10 bulbs on one plant you are wasting a ton of light imho

I am sure there is an optimal number of lights to use and after that point extra light only gives a minimal benefit, and the more experience you have as a grower the better results you can get on less light. But maybe for new people, like myself, it is a good idea to throw in more light to maybe help cover some of the small mistakes I make elsewhere.

to each his own, I am not trying to judge, I am new to this as well, and since I am new I think sometimes less is more, and most of us that are using cfls are doing so because we want or need to use less, and the poster did specificly say he was using 5-6 bulbs so it would seem instead of telling him to double that, we should help him find a way to make the most of what he has..... imo

Well I personally wasn't recomending any number of bulbs, only trying to give some insight into the thought process behind it. Personally I have 20 bulbs for 8 plants, which I will likely increase in the flowering stage depending on how many turn out fem. I am probably spending more on my CFL setup then I would have buying an HPS setup, but I think it will be a good experience over all. Plus I was able to invest in the setup a light at a time.
