Which Cabinet Would You Go With ?

this is where its going to get you. I know it sounds easy enough! You also have to ventilate both sides which introduces more light crossing issues. I went from trying to do something like this to trying to just light tight a small cabinet sitting in my (now larger) flower room. Light is a motherfucker. I ended up draping about 15mil of black plastic over the whole front of the cabinet and then I still had light leaking out of my exhaust. I eventually pulled it out and just veg in the open air in the corner of my closet, no cabinets no nothing since I flower in the garage.

i agree the way the doors close on those is so bad, a strip of foam weather stripping won't seal the light in, and an option like chaka said is draping plastic over the front, which now is going to screw up the "hidden cabinet" idea

a way around this might be lining the whole inside with a sheet of panda film, and making a roll-up velcro door inside of the bi-fold doors

as far as exhaust/intake goes you want non-reflective ducting, preferably black, and 2-90 degree bends like an S on both the intake and exhaust, to eliminate further light leaks.
if you aren't using the panda film i suggest caulking all seams with caulk that is flexible and waterproof (latex/silicone)

forgot to mention its great to have 5' of straight run duct on either side of the exhaust fan, to allow it to pull correctly.
i always design my rooms to have the exhaust up high, in the center, with the intake on the very bottom, hooked into a filter/diffuser box.
the box is just so i can swap filters fast, if you wanted you could just use washable filter material and just shove it in the ducting, take it out every week and wash it (you'll be amazed at the shit you get out of it that woulda been on your grow room)

reflective shit isn't as effective dusty, and an intake filter is key to keeping things at their maximum output

SC, heres a little tweak i did, just an idea. if you could pull this off, you could keep plants going year round. if you could a few cfl lights in that lower section for vegging 4 to 5 weeks, then to the upper short flower section and then to the tall flower section and so on, year round grow, LoL. good luck with which ever one you chose, CD. i use to to use a small 2x2x2 box to start my plants in with 3 cfl's for veg and the big box for flowering so i think you could pull it off.

It's a tie get em both and use one for clones and veg and the other for flower!

I guess when it comes to the flowering chamber......Which size would be better ? :

White Cab : Flower Chamber: 5'h x 20.5"l x 37"w or 3'h x 20.5l x 48"w

Cherry Cab : Flower Chamber: 5'h x 26" l x 34.4"w or 3'h x 26"l x 45.5"w


I am not sure how I would approach the flower chambers on the right (SCROG?, LST? - neither of these techniques I have been drawn to all that much)....I almost like the idea of just letting the plant grow naturally, though if I needed to LST maybe a few branches that might be ok)..My first grow that I had to cut early was thin and tall, and was doing good....That's part of the reason I designed this like the first set of measurements..And, I like plants that get taller, and look like monsters (they also usually have monster buds then too, lol)....

Also, what I like about the first set of measurements is that I will probably be able to adjust the shelves in the vegging/clone chambers if I ever needed to adjust the height in them......

Remember I was only planning on growing like 2 plants at a time.....Was hoping that I could yield 8oz off two plants per grow. I actually prefer to not yield more or much more than 8oz per grow really...

LIGHT LEAKAGE: I was thinking of using maybe some kind of rubber weather stripping - kind of something like you see in your car door jambs.....Heck maybe I could even go to a local junkyard and pick some up for cheap....I could glue them in there so when the doors close they butt up against the doors sealing all the light.....I know that whatever I try I may have some leaks, and will have to tweak with the design after....In fact, I'm counting on it.

Anyone with me on the design of the height adjustable vegg chambers ? Or do you like CD's idea ?

EDIT: I found this at the Home Depot website...Looks like to would make a great seal for light, as well as help make a nice vacuum for the exhuast fan

I do like that set of flowering lights you created up there, lol.....that's gnarly.

Well after much much debate....I decided to go with the white Home Depot cabinet....I know it's not built as good as the Cherry Cab but it's more stealth, and I also plan on putting wheels on it so I can move it around the cellar.....That cherry cab would have looked weird with wheels.

Now I finally get to get started on it !!!

thats cool, at least you have plenty of ideas now. one tip though, drill small pilot holes before you screw into that cab when you move the dividers so it doesnt splitter the mica on the outside. keep us updated on how it goes. good luck bro!!

I would use whatever is bigger. You can get it sealed 100% just takes some work. IMO you will get better results from the same wattage HID than going with CFL. I have a vert scrog in my cabinet with a 600w hps with a CFL veg area below. I believe Nizza said a rollup shade for light. That works well too. Reflectix is a great product for lining the inside. Here are some shots of my space to give you ideas maybe. Have fun. Cabinets can be the bomb.

Have you checked the craigslist in space? I've heard theres some great free cabinets floatin' around..

Otherwise I would see more from the cherry cabinet, that depth is great.

here ya go....I went to go to Home Depot tonight to get the rest of my supplies but ended up yappin' on my phone in the parking lot...next thing I know the lights go out and the store closes before I can even get in there, lol....

Anyways I got the mylar in it, and I customized the shelves, and dividers for the different chambers....I also put wheels on it.

Dude tell me this is for your tv or clothes?? Or u can get a gorilla grow tent.. or any grow tent.. not endorsing or do i work for that particular company. Just have had personal buyers experience.

Well I got some PVC pipe....I am going to have a 2" intake in the floor of each chamber.....there will also be a 2" air vent in the top of each chamber which will allow air to go to my fan and scrubber.....PVC is white but I''ll be painting it black, and putting two 90 degree turns in them to block light filtering through.....

Also I am having problems finding the screen for my carbon scrubber....

I went to Home Depot but could not find this metal screen/mesh....anyone know where I could find this ?

Were you in the outdoor garden area? Looks like fine chicken wire which is usually by the fencing.

EDIT: Looks like I will need to go with smaller PVC....Just not enough ground clearance under the cab with this size

I got the screen .....it was in the home and garden section outside....

Oh man, some of the depot workers are so remedial.....some chick thought she would help me find nuts, bolts, and washers....She was going by some number on the bag and trying to give me washers that were so big that the bolts would have slipped right through them, lmao.....I had to tell her that washers are supposed to be tight against the bolt, lol.

Then I trying to get an air conditioner filter....I told the guy exactly what it was that I was looking for....He kept trying to give me the wrong filter....I literally had to argue with him so he didn't give me the wrong filter, lol.

Then I saw some guy I knew from the gas station....I was glad he didn't see me.....He could have asked what I was doing with a bunch of PVC 90 degree connectors, dryer ducting, and screen mesh, lol. I guess the old phrase would have come into play there, "I'd tell you but I'd have to kill you" , lol.


Stay tuned guys, gettin' closer to getting this project done.....Can't wait to get growin....Can't wait.

ah, good times at home depot, LoL. might be late but thats chicken wire, like 1/4" x 1/4", should be in a roll by the metal stuff? cabs looking great man!! when i had my white cab, i had pvc pipe running all over that thing.
