Where to top?

Hi!!
Is there a node that is ideal to top? 2nd node? 3rd node? Etc. Is there science to this or is it all preference and really doesn’t matter? I came across information online but no one explains why they chose or recommended that specific node.

You're right, it doesn't really matter. I like to be at least above the 3rd node, sometimes higher if I feel some of the lowers need to be chopped off because they're too spindly.

Usually around the 4th to 6th node, but it’s very dependent on the individual plant. If a plant is small you can wait, if it’s growing vigorously then earlier.

All about how YOU want it to grow

Preference. Most times I tend to top at the 3rd or 4th nodes very VERY early in veg. But like everyone says, its a matter of preference.

I top 3 times on photo plants and zero on autos...but the great thing is you make the rules.

First top between the third and fourth node
Second between the fourth and fifth
Then a final 3rd time between the fifth and sixth.

This will give you 8 colas.

Sometimes i top twice in two rounds sometimes i top every branch on the plant obviously you need to wait till its big enough and give it some recovery time its all about what your growing and how you wanna shape it/preference/space you wanna fill they only mention the node thing to stop nubes butchering seedlings tbh

I'd say after you see three healthy branches in a row, then top it. Could have 1 to 3 scraggly under it.

I don't count the first branch set and count 3 above that. You can back chop and repeat the process for long spear throwing plants.
Stripping plants during the process helps build your lower canopy strong for 4 to 6 foot mains no problem at harvest.
