Where to start?

I am about to partake in my very first grow ever. There are some aspects that I need help figuring out a good place to start from. I realize that there are probably going to be thousands of variables to take in to account, but I need a baseline to get going and have no clue what that baseline might be.

I will be growing in soil.

Water -
I have neither the time nor ambition to water by hand multiple times a day. So, I want to set up a drip irrigation system on a timer. How many times do I need to water? Are there different schedules for veg vs flower?

Nutrients -
How often are nutrients applied? Daily? Every other day? Weekly? Again, are there different schedules for veg vs flower?

There is a thread here titled "5 mistakes most new growers make."

I highly suggest you read that. And then read some more. You don't water cannabis multiple times a day. In fact you would water once every 2-3 days depending on pot size.

Your on a growing forum, use the resources at hand to do your research. Thats the only way to ensure you have a successful harvest.

I have read that one and another just like it. I am well aware that over watering is an issue. I also know that over feeding is an issue. These are the simple issues that I am trying to prevent.

I have also tried to research as much as I can ahead of time. I have no doubt that the info is out there if one has hours upon hours to search through all of the threads on this site, let alone the 15 other grow sites. I also have no doubt that you all get tire of answering the same questions over and over. But please realize, sometimes it is not all that easy to find the information you want, sometimes there is so much information that you don't know what to do with it, and sometimes all the information available contradicts each other and it is hard to figure out what to be accurate and less than accurate.

With that in mind, I apologize for asking a repetitive question. BUT, as a completely overwhelmed and complete n00b grower, it is much easier and faster for me to learn if I ask questions and then expand on those question based off the answers given.

First thing I want to say is that growing plants is easy. Stick your seed in soil and water it from the tap and it will grow. The exception being if you have really shitty water, but most municipal supplies are fine. Your ideas of using a drip system are good. It's pretty common. As a previous poster mentioned, just keep the soil moist.

Now, to grow a big plant means you need to use fertilizer. This is of course not without risk. You can over fertilize pretty easily. But don't let that prevent you from doing it. For the most part, what a manufacturer suggests is going to work, if you're nervous about that, add it in 1/2 or 3/4 concentration. There isn't really a "best" fertilizer blend. There are options that are better depending on the growth cycle, but your plants will still grow regardless. Just don't over do it and you'll be fine.

First grow keep it simple,
How much do you want to invest?
You can get a 1000 watt dimmable light ,1000 , 750 and 600 for about $240.00 complete, use a reputable dirt company such as fox farm, black gold etc.
Use a box fan or oscillating fan for air circulation, and depending on you grow room your gonna need fresh air to give it some co2, and a ph meter with calibration fluid and check it every watering I would most definitely hand water you will get the feel for the weight of the dry pot so water when light the biggest mistakes made by a new grower is over watering it can open a whole can of worms. Root rot , mold, gnats, all kinds of nasty shit.
Fert should be used in very small amounts at first to see how the plants react 1/4 strenght at first the dirt should have more than enough nutes for 2 months. Always ph your water after fert is mixed as it will change it ph @ 6.0 to 6.7 I try to keep it at 6.5
And last get good quality seeds order them from Herbie's or attitude or mws my first grow indoor was bag seed they took forever to finish. Get good genetics that you already know what to expect.
Take it slow and give them time don't rush, don't overwater , and don't over fert and you will enjoy the time you've spent growing.. Get a grow or 2 under your belt then experiment with what works and what doesn't take it from my experience it sucks to spend all that time just to kill them.

Feeding is going to change depending on what you're growing in. A lot of people will tell you that you need to feed weekly, bi-monthly and so on. I think you hear this because most people don't want to admit they didn't really need all the fertilizers someone talked them into buying. I grew this in ffof with just plain water NO OTHER FERTILIZER ADDED!!! 20160209_220644.jpg

The best advice I can give any new grower is just do not over complicate things, there really is no need.

Stick to a couple of growers on here,or some one you can trust who you know grows, but gets good results.i know plenty of growers that get very low end results ,but claim to be the don data of the grow world.

Tell no one what your doing ,no one .growing can be hard sometimes, because of trying to keep things under the radar, not even my brothers know what I do.i don't want no one knowing what I do,the less that know the less chance of things going pear shaped, but I'm in a illegal situation here in the uk.but even if it was legal I still want no one knowing.

Buy the best equipment you can afford, cool hoods not tubes, are in my view a must, you will lose a few lumans but I think it's well worth it,get good exhaust fan and inlet the biggest you can afford,I have found through trial and error over the years, that bigger is better I use a 12 inch out let ,big boy filter.and a 8 inch inlet. The reason that I would say get a bigger exhaust and inlet is you can all ways use more lights if you,get the chance of more room, you can buy a dial /speed controller to turn the speed up and down, but I do smellies so most the time I need the filter on full.Has for watering get a auto pot set up easy but deadly when used right.

Are you growing for personal use,or for both you and to shift a bit to friends ,because if you are do your re-search into what they like smoking ,where I live I have known people get stuck with some really nice stuff, just because every one is into the haze strains, glad I'm out of all that shit.but it's well worth shifting a bit your first one to get some money either to add on to your new room or just to pay for it.

If you do have a problem ,don't panic and start adding this and that ,most new growers do more harm than good,I would start of using advanced,I have used there nuts in soil and done really well from them, you do not need there full range, sensi pro a/b big bud and overdrive that's all you need nutrient wise unless you hit a major problem, then buy what you need to fix it.get there ph perfect stuff,I have not used anything to gage my ph in years ,no need. The water in most country's is pretty good,if I was living in a 3rd world county then I would look into my water source more. But buy a blue lab ec truncheon there brilliant and a must, make sure you use good soil,I liked bio buzz light ,the one with no added nutrients sure it was called light mix,if not soil from a hydroponic store ,rather than a place that stores it out doors where any thing could end up in it.

I would start of by doing regular seeds ,rather than feminised regular seed's give you far more options when it comes to keeping a mother,or a plant that may have a few different traits that you prefer, buy good genetics, the reason I would go with seed unless you have someone who does good clones, ones without any mites or other things wrong with them.seed wise no one knows you got the seeds only you and the seed bank, there are plenty of great seed banks out there,I use marijunaseedsnl for near all of my seeds,if not them attitude seeds. If you do go with feminised seeds then go with something you enjoy smoking,if you are from the uk,then ugosb are your best bet. There ugsb#1,or there blue's,both brilliant producers and people love the stuff, but there reg,but once you sex them a mother can be kept for has long has you want .feminized it would have to be greenhouse seeds, super lemon haze, exodus cheese from them is brilliant not far of the real deal cheese wise.Trainwreck, arms all easy to grow and produce good yields.

For your first grow go on the space you have, what method you are going to use, what size are we talking, most important thing is enjoy the growing it's a great thing ,and in time it because men's a secondary job,I love the breeding side have done for the last 6 or so year, but I'm growing for med's.I am not a big smoker of the flowers ,unless it's really special,I'm more into making bho, into vape oils, and Rick Simpson oil, that me and my wife both use.keep us up dated with the room and how you are doing good luck jha bless

Once you've read some journals, threads etc etc you're gunna see that people do different things, take nutrients, some say they use every water and that's the way to go and others use every other water and that's the way... Theres arguments for and against diffetent setups and schedules. It can be confusing for a new grower, and as a new grower myself my advice would be to not over complicate things, just make a decision and go for it. What works for someone else may not for you, trial and error. As long as you don't over do anything you can adjust to what the plant says and move on.
