Would like to see what happens if you settle on the basement corner, as that's what I just started yesterday myself.
So far, with lights in place and 3/4 of the reflective surfaces hung, I think I'm losing a lot of light/heat into the rest of the basement, so if you can close it off, I'd suggest doing it, because now I have to make sure I find a way to back my mylar on the basement side with something heavier to keep light/heat where I want it. Sounds like you've got some materials laying around, and I know if I had the plywood I would have just closed off my corner.
