Shit man you've got some damm nice gear , not Best Buy consumer gear for sure , it sounds like a well thought out rig .

Yes the McIntosh art 22 speakers are line arrays , each bass cabinet has two 12 inch woofers & an 8 inch midrange , the tweeter columns have 21 one inch silk dome tweeters in each column , we liked them so much we bought a 2nd pair .

Two yrs ago Mcintosh speaker designer legend Roger Russell sold me his personal McIntosh XR 290 line arrays that are a big step up from the 22's , the line arrays sound alot like Martin Logan electrostatic speakers only with bass below 20Hz & a more distinct high end , the sweet spot is anywhere in front of the system from the way the array disperses the sound , only drawback is the huge footprint with 4 cabinets per system .
Nice! I'm happy to know im not the only one who cares about bandwidth and imaging!

WHOLEY FUCKIN SHIT>>>>>I thought I had a decent system.....I have Yamaha, Marantz, Monster Power and Polks..with Audioquest wire
You do have a good system , Polk has all ways made great sounding speakers even way back in the 70's , as long as your amp or receiver has enough power & headroom to drive the Polks they should sound great , good speakers are 90% of the systems sound & Polk has a great sound .

Thank you for the compliment btw , I'm building another system now around a pair of McIntosh XR-290 line arrays I bought from the engineer who designed & built speakers for McIntosh , they need lots of power to drive properly , I put in three 20 amp lines for the amps & a single 15 amp line for the preamp & sources .

I've all ready bought the preamp ,cdp, dac , eq & all the amps needed to tri amp them with 2,000 watts @8 ohms but I'm having a hard time finding a rack that can hold all most 1,000 lbs of amps & related gear ,as well as have shelf spacing of 18 inches so the amps have a few inches to breathe .

I should have the system set up & working within the next month or two , when it's finished I'll post up a few pics of it in this thread , probably throw up a pic of our all tube system & home theater as well now that I see some audio guys are around .

If you really like the Polk sound & have a few bucks to spend look on eBay for Polk SDA SRS speaker systems , they are built nearly the same as a line array & will blow your hair back .

Here is the system ive been working on getting set up for the last 2 years at our summer house , speakers are Mcintosh XR-290's line arrays & are Mcintosh speaker designer Roger Russells personal speakers & the only pair ever to be built in white , this is my 1st week breaking them in & so far they exceed all my other line arrays .

Ive got the line arrays bi amped right now with 1,000 watt @8 ohm Emotiva monoblocks & a 600 wpc @8 ohm Emotiva stereo amp powering the midranges & tweeters .

Thank you , they sound beyond awesome & ive been promising pics of them being they are the designers personal system .

With every system i set up i use either a dbx 20/20 or 10/20 with room correction & flat response then use Franl Zappas Jazz from Hell album to put the speaker system thru the paces , all tracks on that album except 1 were performed on a Synclavier so every note has perfect pitch & tone , Jazz from Hell will show any speakers weak points on the analyze setting on the dbx eq/analyzer in the pic .

So far im measuring bass response below 10hz on the flat setting , ive gotta set the mic back up & run some more pink noise before i ger perfect toe in angle for the room accoustics then i can measure the midrange & highs to see where they roll off .

So far they've bested all my other systems but i still like to measure all responses , when i get a chance to run pink noise again i'll post all the specs .

For overall spl ive pushed them with all 1,800 watts without going into protection mode on the amps of speakers & pulled a decent 147 db @ 12 feet , im pretty sure they will break 150 db when i add another 200 watt tube amp on the tweets & triamp them .

Hi Panhead! I've been reading a lot about your fabled mediumless method and I'm intrigued. I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this (I just went to the newest post). May I ask the depth of the 4'x8' black trays that you've used. P.S. awesome sound gear :)
