Where do the seeds come from????

Ok, I know that I know this but I am having a huge debate with a friend. My son got a bag from a friend of ours that was supposed to be "Awesome" (My son says its pretty darn good)

In the middle of a nice sized bud there was a couple of seeds. I said that meant it was either hermied or male and he about laughed his head off telling me I had no idea what I was talking about and that ALL pot had seeds...

Shouldn't AWESOME weed be pure female with no seeds? Remember I am a non smoker so I haven't seen a lot of bags.. Am I crazy???? Are my girls, even tho they have never been around a male going to have a seed or 2? Did I misread something??

no, all weed does not have seeds. if you have all females and no males than yes there will be no seeds in your grow. i recently learned that female plants that are left to flower too long will eventually make pollen sacks and pollinate themselves, thats a whole nother science tho....

Yep the fact that it's buds means it's a female. Takes a male to make seeds. So ALL pot CAN have seeds but not all pot DOES have seeds.

Well I have absolutely no light leaks that I know of in my last grow, and I still got a few undeveloped seeds in the bud. I think this is a natural way certain strains try to adapt to the fact that they didn't get pollinated and they want to carry on the genetics. Evolutionarily this is beneficial, but it takes energy away from buds so it's not wanted in growing. Ideally a strain could be developed that doesn't do this, but even with quality genetics I get a few seeds so I'm not sure if it's possible yet.

Anyway, bud without any seeds is called something like "semsilla" and is absolutely possible, and will yield better than bud with seeds, although it wont technically be more potent.

Light leaks aren't the only things that cause hermies. Genetics, stress, hormones, extended flowering period, lots of things.... some even say fem seeds are more prone but I can't speak for that one myself. I can say it definitely varies from occurrence to occurence. I've had cases where one rogue bannaa popped up and you get some random seeds, or cases where they almost fully revert to being male.
