When you make weed butter or weed Isopropyl wash - Do terpenes come too?

Much respect to you though. I was here under different name a few years ago and you helped me finally harvest at proper maturity. I was growing dinachem, Jack 47 and blue widow. Some under hps and some under t5. Following your advice changed everything for the better. Everything I grow now is fully done and I’m very happy nowadays
I remember you, glad to hear things are going well for you.

Ehhh..not a fan of it. I do everything cold. 30 second wash is much less potent and less flavorful than a very quick wash 5 seconds max. To each their own though
Totally right to each their own. If you can taste the difference between a quick 30 seconds and your 5 seconds more power to you. I get pristine golden oil with full terps with 30second washes, and I don't understand any way the potancy would be lowered but I haven't had the opportunity to lab test my extractions. I also don't use any heat to do my evaporation to retain as many terps as possible. Either way glad you are making delicious QWISO, most people don't realize that is a thing. They only think about the gross dark green or black stuff its always great surprising people with a really nice extraction.

In my house, a few second wash produces a much lighter liquid (yellow/gold) and extract and could be tricking myself but it tastes much better. The longer washes get darker and pull more undesirable stuff out, more chlorophyll if I’m thinking correct. More weight but not as potent cause it’s not as pure. different ratio of things in the extract. That added weight/darkness is not exactly made of the most flavorful or potent stuff. For a more extreme text. Simply pour iso over material on a screen with a pan under to catch. No swirl or wash. Just very quick contact as it passes through the screen. Smoke that side by side with a 45 second wash. Night and day difference of flavor and potency. Do you smoke cigarettes by chance?

See my 30 seconds washs produce a nearly clear slightly yellow tinted alcohol. Maybe a difference in material, I don't grind my material......

That sounds like it’s probably the difference. I grind mine. Maybe next time I’ll just break buds into small pieces and try. 30 seconds wash with ground material gets me black colored alcohol

THats exactly the difference :). I've done those comparison tests, having less exposed cell material leads to less chlorophyll transfer. Everything we want is in the oils on the outside of the material anyway. Now I just put my material in as is, and by the time its ice cold it all crumbles when I add the alcohol and give it a swirl.

Thanks man. I’m going to have to update my technique

For highest quality smoking oil using ISO I do much the same as you. Just toss the dry, frozen buds into the ice cold ISO and mash them up for a few seconds then pour it right thru a coffee filter. Strainer above that to keep all the little bits out.

To make the oil even better I do a simple separation with a bit of naphtha. Reduce the iso/oil volume down to about 6oz then put that in a mickey bottle (12oz). Add a couple oz of pure water and a couple oz of naphtha. Shake the living shit out of it for a while and let it sit to see if it starts to separate a bit. Whether it does or no shake it a bunch more. I've had this sit in the cupboard for a week with little separation so got pissed off and put it in the freezer. ShaZam! Worked like a hot-damn. Bottom half was a greenish ugly slush with an inch or so of uglier looking waxy crud on top of that with a dark, clear layer on top which is the naphtha/oil now. Pour that out thru a smaller lab filter then evap off the solvent. Not quite BHO but so nice and clean tasting with a really heavy hit. The hit depends of the bud but it's really nice.

An old BHO run.

The two on the left are unrefined Qwiso.

That became shatter. It scrapes off the dish as a crystalline powder. Then once on the parchment if I want I can “mush” it together with my fingers and it would press into shatter.
Cool! I have over 200g of dry sift I need to do something with one of these days. Was thinking of using it to enhance my RSO extractions. more into edibles than stoner stuff these days.

Using 2 liters of isopropyl alcohol and 300 grams of low quality buds with seeds I extracted 32 grams of dark goo. The cannabis was dissolved and shaken in alcohol for almost 90 seconds and then the alcohol was boiled off (in my Instant Pot). Now I need to make something out of this.

You can melt it into butter or coconut oil for making edibles, which is what I would likely do.
Or you could also add a small amount of drinking grade alcohol back to it to make a tincture.
