I really like this analogy. You will get a feel for how much water they need by just tipping the pot with your hand or gently lifting the edge of it. Also just visual observation light colored soil/coco will usually be dry and darker color will be moist/wet.

He means that if you lift a carton of milk, you can tell how much milk is in the carton. The same for your plants. Lift them every day. You will be able to tell very quickly the difference between a pot that needs watering and one that doesn't.

A fully watered pot is heavy. A dry pot is light.
