When to water?

I just started growing im wondering how to check if it needs water I've read to stick my finger down 1in and it needs to feel cool/dry to water again but I've read that it shouldn't stick to ur finger and shouldn't? So how do i check?

If you don't have a developed rootzone yet, for example you just started a seed or put a small rooted plant into a larger pot (transplanted) then you will want to water until the medium your growing in is moist, not soaked, and then not water again until it's almost dry.
Depends on what you're growing in, but for dryback protocols, you do it by weight. You can tell blindfolded if you need to buy another gallon of milk or not by just picking it up. Same principle.
I really like this analogy. You will get a feel for how much water they need by just tipping the pot with your hand or gently lifting the edge of it. Also just visual observation light colored soil/coco will usually be dry and darker color will be moist/wet.

He means that if you lift a carton of milk, you can tell how much milk is in the carton. The same for your plants. Lift them every day. You will be able to tell very quickly the difference between a pot that needs watering and one that doesn't.

A fully watered pot is heavy. A dry pot is light.

Ok but that won't help me right now it will later on I'm only a week in would it make a diffence I don't think it would bc it's so little water?
