When to take clones dilemma?

Okay just ready to start getting into this....after all my research I've come to the conclusion you shouldn't take clones from a plant under two months of age because it can produce week straggly plants. Does this sound correct? I have two seeds I want to pop so not a lot of inventory to work with. Two months of age puts me into flowering which I hear can produce hermies and also slow weaker plants. Cloning before knowing the sex is counterproductive and sex is shown during flower, correct? Am I over thinking things here? It's like asking what came first, the chicken or the egg? Just trying to build up some plant population from a limited amount of seed without interfering with a plants transition from veg to flower. Thanks for reading and any insight provided.

Cannabis will push out preflowers before they are flipped. Depending on the light given you can take cuttings in a month after germination. Ideally it should have some size to it before you take cuttings.

Rule of thumb is dont take more than 30% of the plant to get a cutting.

I have taken half the plant on several occasions and not had problems though.

If you have the room go ahead and take clones of all of them and toss the male clones once you can ID them.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to throw that two month strategy out the window. I'll take my clones before flower and not worry about it, then try and focus in on one mother for the future as clones develop. You guys helped a lot!

I take mine right before I flip to 12-12. 6 for 6 on some clipped two weeks ago. And I don't use any fancy stuff.

In the flower tent are five that were clipped right before last flower. They are proving to be much "easier" than the moms that came from seed.

I like to clip as late as possible to keep veg not too long as the moms flower. Thus far, never a prob with herms or anything.
