When To Start?

I live in Massachusetts, and I was looking to do an outdoor grow this summer. I only have to problems, when should I plant the seeds? I was thinking around May, but would baby plants hold up in 60 degree weather?

Also would my plants be done before it gets too cold (in October)?

I was thinking of starting the plants in 12-12 cause I'm not working with much time due to my climate.

The plant will be done when its done! and it all has to due with the length of days! I know people much further north than you start there seedlings in early may and finsih is late sep! if your using clones you have to wait till june to put them out!

Usually I start to sprout and CFL veg inside in early april...weather permitting they'll be outside 1st week of may during day...but last year was a month behind... thats where the CFL inside veg paid off.. Luck.

Oh ok, they're just bagseeds so I guess I'll just plant them in early May and wait it out and see how it goes.

Very good advice everyone. I think Victozack doesnt understand thow.... The best way to ensure an Outdoor plants survival is to Germinate the seeds plant them indoors in a small growbox etc... grow them to a substantial size like 8 inches tall using plenty of CFLS and making sure to keep the lights close to avoid stretching.. and then transfer your 8" min plants outside to your grow spot!!!!!! Therfore you should start germination around midway of march so you will start your sprouts with enough veg time to get decent size before good outdoor weather begins........

Thats what I usually do......

You can start your seeds inside, like has been said, just a few things that haven't been said. One, do you have to worry about anyone seeing your plant(s) where you're gonna plant them. I planted in my yard once, and it ended up being a 6 foot + monster that was peeking over the top of my stockade fence. Two, I stuck the seed in the ground the end of May, if memory serves me. It vegged for 3 months or so, and flowered when the days started getting shorter for what was probably 2+ months, into October. It harvested maybe a little early, but I had no choice. Here is my point. NOT knowing what strain you're gonna be growing, you have NO WAY of knowing how long they will flower for. If it ends up being a Sativa dominant plant, you will end up wasting a lot of time and energy just to have the cold wreck things for you. My seasons are comparable to yours, just a little milder, and the Fall and Winter temps were definitely an issue. You would be better off getting yourself some seeds that you know the genetics of, and that are done in 7-8 weeks at the latest.

I don't really have the choice to start them inside though, that's my problem. I was thinking of vegging them for a month or two, and then if the days are still not short enough then I read an idea on another forum where this guy just tied trashbags over his plants after 12 hours was up. This might not work, but its worth giving it a shot.

ok that makes it a little different you couldnt even sprout them for a week indoors??also is your grow spot easily accesible by you????like your backyard????? if so your chances are a lil better. you will have to hope to get lucky in order for afew plants to make it. I had limited success just planting seeds so I now put em out as big as possible..... good luck

Yeah I wouldn't be able to sprout, but the spot I had in mind is very accessible, so I would be able to visit them almost every day.

I have 30 seeds, so I'd even be happy if I only get a few plants out of it.
