Heres an answer; don't do it, autos only grow for 3 weeks then move into bloom, its a waste of time, the plants will be the same size at harvest, your better off to just let them do there own thing and grow upright.

I like to tie mine down around 10-14 days from when it sprouts.... just wait for 3 or so nodes (so big aux. shoots will develop from the first 2)
and check the advanced training thread... skip to the end jeffdog gathers the best info condensed into quotes

thank you for the replays bro's cant wait to get my first grow up and running :)!! seeds are in the wet tissue and nutes and tent+lights arrived today!! here is some pics, and so its safe to say there will be a noticeable difference in yield using LST?? or would anyone one else recommend something different.i am growing 3 mixed lowryder seeds could be anystarin of lowryder, just need to rig my lights to the reflector as the power lead was missing :(,,i am using bio bizz all mix soil and a 115 w cfl and a 125w cfl but plan on adding more :leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf:DSC_0169[1].jpgDSC_0170[1].jpgDSC_0171[1].jpgDSC_0167[1].jpg

yes there is a noticeable difference the more even the canopy the more light/energy the shoots/buds get =more weed. You end up with a good sized main cola and multiple sub colas that develop much more than if not trained.

When you dont train the top keeps going up so the canopy rises so the light needs to be raised and as it retreats from the other shoots they will have lower light intensity and develop less.

Tech Dan is right,

that's what a screen helps control but it can easily be trained with string or wire or bending.

Im thinking of using BONSAI wire on my first Auto!

(for after a bark like formation on a branch)

I will be doing some continuous LST.

I guess it's like training dogs, if you don't Work them they might do good but might do bad.

My Dog of the Last 6 years gets trained every day of her life.

Life is training because training is life, make Sense?

This should be a bookmarked page for EVERY auto grower. It hits everything. I know for a lot of questions I may have in the future I could just pull this up. I am at the stage where I am like "Oh god the soil looks kinda dry... do I water it" It's like a constant battle lol, but this thread makes me want to not water it just because I don't want to hinder growth.

i use trotline string 300 lb test
and poke holes in the rim of my pot to pull them down easy peasy a 3 gal is just the right size to make a lst monster
2013-09-18 08.03.25.jpg the main stalk was pulled down about 3/4 of the way up around node 6 from the bottom mid veg then branches were pulled down

300 lbs line? damn.... I use whatever gauge wire and eyebolts and little clippy things

as for watering wait till the top inch of soil is dry and/or the pot is light. Once you learn the feel of the wet and dry pots its easy lift if up for a few seconds and you know weather it wants a drink

the 300 lbs is thicker and kinda soft feeling
its high dollar for a roll but once they are cut to length you just use them again and again ;)
best part is it takes forever for the plant to grow around the thicker twine so its not cutting off circulation if you dont readjust it every so often
